President Joe Biden on Thursday blamed vaccine hesitancy among black Americans on the past experimentation by the U.S. government on the Tuskegee Airman, conflating the famed World War II pilots with the Tuskegee Syphilis Study.
“The reason why it’s been harder to get African Americans, initially, to get vaccinated because they are used to being experimented on — the Tuskegee Airmen and others,” Biden said.
While originating in Tuskegee, Alabama, the Tuskegee Airman are famous for being the first group of African American fighter pilots to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps. First trained at the Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama in 1941, they would later go on to fly more than 15,000 individual sorties in Europe and North Africa during World War II. Altogether, the estimated number of participants ranged from 15,000 to 19,000, including pilots, mechanics, flight instructors, doctors, and more.
The Tuskegee Syphilis Study, on the other hand, was an experiment conducted by the U.S. government from 1932-1972 to “observe the progression of a number of diseases, particularly syphilis, untreated in black males.” More than 600 men agreed to participate in the study in exchange for meals, transportation, and health care....

Yep. I wonder if someone educated him after the first error, and his mind is so far gone that he forgot and said it again.
Democrats get a pass.
Effing idiot.
Because they all look alike in Joe’s racist mind.
If Trump did that they’d impeach him in a heartbeat.
I live near a major medical school and participate in various research studies to earn $$$ and get me out of the house (and away from the laptop). Before these study start you have to sign 20 pages of disclosure regarding what they have planned. I think that lack of disclosure was at least part of the problem with the Tuskegee Syphilis Study.
The "Tuskegee Syphilis Study" ran from 1937 to 1972. By 1947 it was known that penicillin was effective against syphilis, yet the study subjects were not informed that a treatment had become available, and they were never treated.
Correction: The study ran from 1932 to 1972, not 1937 to 1972.
I read somewhere that several years ago a journalist asked some senators, off the record, who the dumbest senator was. Every senator who answered the question said: Joe Biden.
“The prez of the United States should know the difference between a distinguished and historical military unit and the name of the study that black people cite as the source of their suspicion about medical advice from government’
Biden’s statement is also incredibly stupid, because if blacks are afraid to take a vaccine because they heard about the Tuskegee syphilis study, WHY WOULD HE WANT TO CONTINUE TO REMIND PEOPLE ABOUT THE STUDY. It ended 50 years ago. He is reinforcing their distrust of the government and medicine and causing more people to refuse the vaccine. But he’ s an idiot so what should we expect
And every member of his regime.
Yeah, and if he wanted to allay their concerns, he would have to point out that a lot of white people are taking the vax, so black people have nothing to fear.
But then he would be insinuating they are stupid compared to whites.
He’s in a bind.
On a related note, I wish someone would do man-in-the-street interviews of blacks and ask them what their issue with the vax is. I have the sneaking suspicion they would have some intelligent, well-thought out answers and it is not they who are the stupid ones on this issue.
He’s too stupid to be an idiot. He’s a stark raving lunatic.
