If the South had the moral burden of The Peculiar Institution, the North had the moral burden of its murdered children.
The problem I have with it is that it almost completely ignores the Christian abolitionist movement. There would have been virtually zero calls to free the slaves without the growing Christian abolitionist movement making it the number one issue to deal with. The 2nd Great Awakening is THE BASIS of the abolitionist movement -- THE BASIS of slaves being free. And I don't recall a scant mention in the docuseries that it was when the atheists were pushing Darwin's horribly scientific racism book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life.
To me it's fascinating that that book was published in 1859, the very next year the Christians won the 1860 election in the U.S. (Lincoln), then months later in 1861 the Civil War began.
No sympathy for democrats or their propagandists.
I would not watch two minutes of anything by Ken Burns. Unless it took me that long to find the remote control.

What was the slave states forcing free states to allow their slave hunters across their borders and prosecute their residents for helping slaves who had crossed those borders if not a destruction of states’ rights?
It is sort of like the whining about segregation being about private property. The Jim Crow Laws were just that, LAWS.
You were forced to segregate in your own business. BY LAW. With legal punishment coming your way if you did not.
Why was that ok but desegregation by law is bad?

The war and the south is because in most of the south you can still see the vestiges of it..
Particularly both where I grew up and live now ....Mississippi and Tennessee and I was born around 3 generations after when it’s still fairly fresh especially since the cultural divide still existed and we had so many slave descended here..
That last point is one most Freepers just never will grasp....their knowledge of the black race is so naively limited
In most of the south you coexist with them....the good bad and ugly

Anyhow...I can’t speak for Charlotte or Richmond or Baton Rouge and so on but most of the South is disappearing
Overrun by non southerners coming here to escape the liberal Hells they created or inherited....I’m outside Franklin Tn and it’s over half yankees
And southern college qualified kids today rarely have strong southern accents anymore
The rural areas hang on as quote southern but truly they are as much country as southern ...
