What gives her the right to make these decisions that affect MILLIONS of people both in and outside of her state?
How did we get to the point where we allowed one person to get that much power?
Enbridge has been tunnelling a new pipeline for Line 5, to avoid boat anchors and such, so what is the purpose of Whitmer making Line 5 an issue, and interrupting work, at this point in time?
The Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act of 1976 gives blanket immunity to foreign govts from lawsuits by the US govt. A rare few cases have been allowed by individuals against foreign govts. Is Whitmer suing as an individual? Is she suing as a representative of the US govt? Who did she clear her decision with and does she understand that the Canadian govt will certainly take interest?
In July 2017, the Canada Supreme Court tossed a lawsuit against Line 9, ordering the suing party to pay Enbridge’s costs. Not to mention, should Enbridge (and Canadian stockholders) take offense, they do supply 20% or so of American natural gas, among other products not easily or cheaply replaced. Has Whitmer given one thought to the cost to the Michigan taxpayer?
