“In the world’s history, whole civilizations have disappeared, without a trace, except for the uninhabited cities they left behind.”
We’re working on that in some of our cities now and the cause is Democrats.
Compared to thousands of years ago, the dems, leftists, marxists, anarchists, commies, socialists etc are like a virus which spreads unchecked into areas where we live, polluting our states and cities.
Everyone believes in all sorts of things they cannot prove.
If you take an honest inventory of everything you believe you will understand...
“If you take an honest inventory of everything you believe you will understand...”
I am honest...and I understand.. but you are wrong. You and I are different - I hold opinions, understandings - not beliefs. I accept that there are things beyond our ability to know and I have no problem admitting that my views are opinions, subjective understandings, educated guesses.
The whole concept of “faith” “belief” is anti-rational. It is a claim to knowledge that you don’t really have. Why call it a “belief” - why not call it an opinion? I’ll tell you why. It is because you don’t want to admit you don’t actually know.
Einstein said that “belief” was “opinion”, minus the humility - minus the admission of uncertainty.
Yes, everyone holds opinions about all sorts of things they cannot prove - but not everyone “believes” the way you do. Holding beliefs and holding opinions are two completely different things.
Are you able to admit your views of creation and the afterlife are just your subjective understandings of the unknown? That they are just your opinions - your educated guesses? If so, then I would say we are the same.
I suspect though, that as a religious believer, you would have a very difficult time admitting that you don’t “know” the answers when it comes to creation and the afterlife - that your views are mere opinions or educated guesses.
For the “believer”, calling it a “belief” or “knowledge” instead of an “opinion” is a test of faith. A religious believer would consider it demeaning to call the doctrines and beliefs of creation and afterlife mere opinions.
Whereas, not being a “believer”, I have no problem admitting I don’t know. That doesn’t mean I don’t have strong opinions - it just means I recognize they are just my opinions - not proven facts.
Tell me if I’m wrong and I’ll be glad to retract my opinion that you are superstitious. :-)
By the way, I enjoy having these kinds of debates, and I really like people - even those I disagree with. I am sure you are a great person and I hope I’m not being too offensive. My wife tells me I can sometimes go too far.. :-)
Maybe. The Eastern Intelligentsia never forgave Nixon’s takedown of Alger Hiss, inspite of the fact that he was an agent for Stalinist Russia during the 1930s.
Some things are unknown yet they are knowable just as there are some things that are unknowable. A rational person owes it to himself to discern the difference.
Belief is a claim of knowledge. You believe in all sorts of things you can’t prove - and that’s the very definition of superstition.
Sometimes it's the very definition of faith.
The Bible is a historical record of what occurred on Earth with a great deal of dramatic license mixed in.
Explain to me who Jesus had forsaken him on the cross then apply that to the egg theory? Are we to assume Jesus had split personality disorder?
Who does Jesus talk to when he prays? Again does Jesus have split personality disorder?
What was the exact question Pontius Pilate asks Jesus when they meet face to face and Jesus responds I am.
Why did not Isiah say he saw Jesus when he had a vision of the throne room? Why did not John say he say Jesus in the throne room in the Revelations of John? Clearly Jesus was already risen to heaven at the time John saw the throne room and he knew Jesus’ face as he had been with him for several years to that point.
Yes a man can be a father, son and brother but he cannot be a father to himself, a son to himself and a brother to himself. That is the fallacy of the Egg Theory Christians so like to use.
Have you read or studied anything beyond the Bible of the era before it and after it?
Why did Man decide which books were to be a part of the Bible and which were not if all the books were “inspired” by God?
The Dead Sea scrolls have the contents of the Bible but they also have other books that most Christians don’t know about. Do you know this or do you tout that the Dead Sea scrolls only hold the words of the Bible? If you do you are wrong because you were taught wrong. Again the bias of Christianity.
The Popes are not as innocent as most people believe. Politics plays a vital role in the election of a Pope and the smoke is engineered to come out of the stack white. Most Popes are some of the most tyrannical socialistic leaders this world has seen.
Mind you, I do not disagree that a man named Jesus walked the Earth. I disagree Jesus was God made flesh based on what is written in the Bible.
Noah’sFlood was it to rid the Earth of men or the Nephilim? Or as you would know them as Giants or fallen Angels, in the New King James version in the books of Genesis, Numbers, Ezekiel and others like the Book of Enoch.
People didn’t write down His words. They wrote their interpretation of what was said whether to them or someone else.
The Ancient Nation of Israel did not survive. It was destroyed and the land was absorbed into other nation states, like the Roman Empire and the Ottoman Empire. The Earth where the Ancient Nation of Israel existed remains but the Nation of Israel at the time of David no longer exists. It was destroyed when the Temple was destroyed. The borders are not the same. The Nation State of Israel today is much smaller and was created by the United Nations in 1957. Didn’t you read the Bible? The Ancient Nation of Israel became a province (not a nation) called Palestine in the time of the Roman Empire until aftr World War 2. Don’t you know your history? When was the Temple mount lost and where did the gold dome originate from? You know the Mosque that sits on the Temple Mount?
I know far more than I let on and I know far more than you will ever think I know about the Bible and the history of that area.
But, but I wasn’t supposed to have read the Bible... but, but you werte going to school me on the Bible right and tell me how Jesus is God in the flesh and how Jesus is all peace and love and yet he told his disciples to sell their cloaks and buy a sword. He became violent and over turned the tables in the temple. So much for Jesus being all peace and love. I grant you Jesus created miracles but he did so at the permission of his Father.
Wait he gave himself permission? I have a father and I am the son of my father does not make my father and me, one person. That is logic. And that is the biggest lie being told by the Church and how you have been brainwashed by the Church. Didn’t Jesus say through him you get to “my Father”. Why do we need to go through him if he is the Father? Why not go directly to the Father, Jesus? Logical? The teachings of the Church on the Bible about Jesus are not logical. Why does Christianity replace and worship Jesus as a man, Mother Mary and the Cross (a symbol). Don’t believe me? Why do we celebrate Christmas? Why do we celebrate Easter? This is the birth and death of the man named Jesus, not the birth and death of God. Why celebrate the birth and death when God said he was the Alpha and Omega? The beginning and the end (of the Greek alphabet).
But, but, I wasn’t supposed to know all of this because I haven’t read the Bible.... yeah, come at me with something that is of your own words not what you have been biased by. Because at this point, I know every talking point you have on Christianity. As I said before, Christianity did not start with the death of Jesus. It hasn’t been around for 2,000 years, more like 1,400 give or tae a hundred or so. Another lie by the Church.
How many false Messiahs came after Jesus? You won’t find that in the Bible. What happened to the province of Palestine after King Herod? You won’t find that in the Bible.
So tell me, have you read the Bible or have you been taught how to interpret the Bible through biases of the Church that make you blind? I know you went to Bible study and just repeat like a numb robot what you learned there. Use what God gave you a brain to think for yourself and your heart and eyeballs to see what is true. What the Church has being tell you is mostly a lie or why do they keep secrets? Now go away and quit proselytizing you aren’t very good at it. You come across as a kook.
[The aliens removed those pesky Christians in a twinkling of an eye.]
If the aliens removed those pesky Christians, is that or is that not the Rapture?
Why is it almost every year the Jubilee? You will know the answer when you know what is written in the Bible.
My how leftist of you to dote on select few words of a very sarcastic post aim at the those who proselytize on here. Proof
of which was given by the use of the words “magic sky fairy”.
Upshaw! Everyone knows they’re from the hollow earth!
Well, you are correct in a way that faith is anti-rational. It is super-rational, or, better yet, supernatural.
As a quick aside, faith is "opinion plus conviction." People don't sacrifice their lives for mere opinions.
The problem with faith, particularly belief in God, is that it cannot be understood from the outside.
It's a little (very little but distantly akin) to trying to understand how to ride a bike by reading a book about it or being told about it. It can only be understood by "doing" it.
One of the many nice things about faith is that one knows it might be just a very deeply held but incorrect position. If faith had proof, it would lack the incredible transcendental/ethereal dimension that comes with it.
Faith without proof is like trust without evidence.
It's akin to "trusting" a spouse because you know they are loyal and true versus "knowing" them because you have a hidden camera recording their every move.
Real Trust is a powerful, transcendental thing. It's hard to place a value on it.
Proof takes that value away.
I meant to ping you on post #131 above.
Thanks—one of my many issues with science is that it can blind people to the joys of being human.
Science is great at making toys for children.
Adults should need more.
“Proof takes that value away.”
As I said before - I am not asking for proof of anything. I accept that there is no proof of the many, many things that are beyond our knowledge, and I’m totally content with that.
So think what you think - you certainly don’t need to prove anything to me!
I just find it absurd the way so many religious “believers” claim knowledge they don’t have, and speak with an air of smug certainty they can’t justify.
Knowing that you are not a believer, I am going to suggest something that won't bring you any harm, but might--just might--change your view of "faith."
Ask God this question:
"Jesus (or Yeshua, if you like), I don't believe you are real. But, if you are real, show me in a way that I will see...and I will believe."You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. And hang on to your hat, because He loves you VERY much and will certainly show you.
“Jesus, I don’t believe you are real.”
Haha! You are suggesting I have a conversation with your imaginary friend.
I love it! But I don’t think I could keep a straight face.
Best of luck, BTW.
If you don't speak with this "imaginary" friend now, it's only because you are actually afraid he isn't imaginary.;-)
Ok - I did it...
I’ll keep you posted.
:-)
Yes, it was.
Over the Saudi desert, during the build-up preparing for Gulf War I, I was in a two-place OH-58 helo doing communication relay during an exercise.
I was an A-10 and F-15E fighter pilot and doing FAC duty, and the pilot of the OH-58 helo was an apache pilot.
It was noon, bright, clear hot day.
Helo pilot and I saw a shadow racing from the southeast to the northwest. It was a very dark shadow with sharp edges to the shadow. The shadow was about 200-yrds across, zipping along about 800-1,000kts. Zipped closely by us and we never saw the object. Weird.
Large shadow, sharp edges, apparently close to the ground proved by its sharp, dark and well defined shadow, and we can see the ground undulating beneath the shadow. . .BUT we couldn’t see it.
We looked at each other, wondered what that was and just went back to work.
About 10-15 minutes later we saw the shadow coming back on a reverse course. Being fighters, we decided to intercept the object/shadow. As we drew in front of it (still can’t see anything but the shadow), it instantaneously stopped. Reflexively we banked the helo to drive straight at it and the very second we banked to out new course, the shadow instantly accelerated to its original 800-1,000kts.
Stopping and starting like that would generate such enormous G-forces that the craft and anyone inside it, would atomize.
Have no idea what we saw and who(?) was driving it, but wow, incredible.
