My money is on the latter. The foster mom was getting a visit from a former foster daughter who had aged out of the system several years prior. That is who Ma’Khia was attacking with a knife. That visit indicates the foster mom has some at least one seriously thankful foster kid out there.
Sad situation. However, one female was spread eagled on top of the bonnet of the car, the other was poised over her with a knife. One of those gals was going to be dead...and the officer shot the one with the knife. I feel for the dead woman, I feel for the officer...these are split second decisions. MaKhia was a big girl and looked like an adult. Officers have to make quick life and death decisions...bet he didn’t know he was dealing with 16 year olds but the one holding the knife would have been the logical target. Her family is going through hell, but I bet that officer is, too.

This is the FIRST time I’ve heard THAT part of the story! Boy, our Enemy Media does a GREAT JOB omitting pertinent FACTS, don’t they?
Our adult Foster Son is currently painting our house. He paints for a living and is doing an excellent job.
He says, ‘it’s the LEAST I can do for you.’ He also installed new laminate flooring for us this past winter and has done many things for me on the farm - and not always FUN chores either; helping me muck out dog and livestock stalls, fixing my computer, helping get rid of some bats we had living under the siding, etc.
Beau and his wife (RIP) had FOURTEEN Foster Kids (mostly teen boys) through the years. ‘Joe’ is the ONLY one that has ever kept in touch and appreciated the GIFT he was given back during his teen years. The others are either dead, homeless or in prison.
And that’s not an unusual percentage of failure with foster kids. :(
How do we manage to keep G-d’s favor when we kill His creations in the womb, or neglect/abuse so many of them that make it out alive? :(
