Not criticizing, but do you notice how we’ve been conditioned to use phrases like “the gentleman” and “young lady” when we are referring to criminals. Young ladies are vanishingly rare in knife fights.

I am trying to be polite. The girl clearly had issues as I understand she was living with a foster family (relative). At that age, when the state removes you from your parent I have more scorn for the parent than the teenager.
In a sane society, the mother would be more scrutinized than the officer who did what he is supposed to do to protect the live of another.

ABSOLUTELY!
We’ve noted it for a few decades.
Watch local news. Whether it’s police or a local witness (usually black), they ALWAYS refer to the obvious crook as “gentleman”.
