Kristi Noem for President? Not So Fast.

Governor of South Dakota Kristi Noem made headlines in 2020 for keeping her state open during the COVID-19 outbreak and opposing Faucian dictates about masks, stay-at-home orders, and church closures. To this, conservatives applauded — and rightly so. But does holding the line during a pandemic in a state with less than 900 thousand people — about the size of Charlotte, North Carolina — now warrant the frenetic swell of support for Noem among conservatives to be the next vice president or even president?

I think the successor to Trump is either DeSantis, Pompeo or Rand Paul.

That would be my list as well.

I think the successors to Trump will be democrats...in perpetuity. There will be no more unstolen elections.

If the laws are not fixed, we go to the mats.

You can join in or sit it out and whine.

If it happens, it will not be pretty and there will be no need for lawyers, medics, yes, lawyers will be among the first to go.

Too soon for her. VP first. She was on my short list for Trump. (I thought Trump should choose a woman).

Paul is too whacko...

This gets tossed around a lot about Paul, and while it certainly applies to his father, I'm always confused why so many apply it to Paul. To review his stances:

He's anti-corporate welfare
He's for a balanced budget amendment
He would like an audit of the Federal Reserve
He's for a fair or flat tax
He thinks our global warming obsession is ill-conceived
He's against our foreign intervention and continuous war policy
He's opposed to abortion
He opposes federal LGBT protections
He supports freedom of association
He opposes police militarization
He is against the federal control of our education system
He opposes gun control legislation
He wants to appeal Obamacare
He's for border security
He's for reducing or eliminating foreign aid

About the only area where I depart from him is his attitude toward free trade, as in its pure form we typically get screwed.

I supported Paul enthusiastically in the primaries last time around and turned to Trump when he won. One thing you can never say about Paul is that he doesn't stand his ground and stick to his principals. He's not a typical senator that waggles in the wind. This is a very Trumpian way of looking at his job.

I would be very happy to support him again should he choose to run in 2024.

“...has proven herself in no leadership positions within Congress...”

Dumb thing to write.

According to this writer, a leadership position in the House guarantees competency, so we should all gather around and support Paul Ryan, Schumer, etc. She served only eight years in the House. I am not going to search it out, but how many Presidents have transitioned from the House to the Presidency?

An executive position of a small state is much more valuable executive experience than the managing of a gang of sharks with under the table political deals in the House.

The money quote:

Noem waxes eloquent about freedom, conservatism, and the Constitution, but when it came to voting, she was decidedly purple in her ideology and leadership within the House of Representatives.  Contrary to conservative values, she voted for the bloated $855-billion Cromnibus spending package, voted against repealing federal biofuel and energy subsidy programs, voted against farm bill work requirements, voted against reducing funding for assistance housing programs, and voted against reducing funding for essential air service programs and other alternative energy requirements.  However, she has been consistently pro-life and voted to bar funding of Obama's policy to grant amnesty to illegal aliens [...]

Regarding voting scores, Heritage Action and Conservative Review gave her a failing grade of 58-percent lifetime liberty score.  Compare this to Ted Cruz's 91 percent, Rand Paul's 89, and Mike Lee's 96.  The Club for Growth in 2017 gave her a lifetime score of 65 percent.  Compare this to Justin Amash's 99 percent, Andy Biggs's 100 percent, and Jim Jordan's 98 percent.  The American Conservative Union in the same year gave her a lifetime average of 75 percent.  Finally, Noem's National Journal Composite Conservative Score, which was last recorded in 2013, was 27.5 percent.

Any group that gave Justin Amash a 99% rating has an agenda that probably isn't going to win elections

Here's where she differed and agreed with that group (Club for Growth); none of her differings look conservative to me - and one might say the same of some of her agreements.

Palin seems to be thinking about a run. She tweeted at Lisa Murkowski, “Lisa, I can see 2022 from my house.”

Rand Paul is the only guy anywhere in Washington who actually really wants to shrink the size and influence of the federal government. Everybody else just wants it to control different things differently.
