Having fun in your little echo chamber? The COVID virus is what it is. It does what it does. It is FAR deadlier than a flu. Roughly 10% of Texans have had the virus. Roughly 8% have vaccinated immunity. Texas is headed for safety, but we are far from safe yet.
Abbott first tried to ban counties from requiring masks in stores until county leaders showed him that the Texas constitution gives them just that authority. Then when virus cases were spiking last summer Abbott imposed the restrictions he should have imposed to prevent the spike. Then Abbot ran out in the fall virus lull and opened venues up at restricted rates. Then the virus spiked again.
Abbott has been all over the COVID board, with his wetted finger raised into the political wind.
Texas does not have a conservative government. Where is our constitutional carry law? Where is the massive tax relief we were promised? Why did Texas’ energy “deregulation” scheme fail to keep Texas rate payers warm through a cold front?
These cheap blue masks come in handy as dust masks in the wood shop.
That metric is a lie. Might as well use Wikipedia. Told is a scam and a political game.
My wife and I are post 2 weeks with our 2nd Pfizer vaccine and are doing fine with no extra noses or deaths between us.
We have a couple of younger relatives and a few friends who are trying to demand that we wear masks around them, supposedly to protect us.
I have been basically using your response below:
“When, I tell them it’s their choice to wear a mask, they get irate and I get “everyone should”, but if the mask protects you, why should I worry if I’m not?”
Cali transplants in Tx?
Karens and their asexual husbands are in all of our “57”* states!
*57 states as per Obama.
We know what is happening.
I am sure there were some good people in Germany who realized what Hitler was doing. Yet they were helpless to stop it.
It seems as though we too are helpless.
Surely not.
How about something more than a "semblance of normalcy"? How about actual normality?
I'd like to know what sort of "normalcy" the speaker had in mind. Bank robbers?
Hw long before we start seeing minivans sporting bumper stickers saying “My child does as told and wears his mask!”?
Well, be on the watch for the development of a prehensile tail :) my folks are 1 month post 2nd vax. Not sure which one they got. They know that I have not been pleased with the whole mask thing, but no one in the immediate family is requiring masks to be worn.
I really don’t get the fury if I choose not to wear one and you do.
I’m bust keeping my immune system boosted
Yep.... and what happened to the common cold aka “the flu”?
Bet you won’t find that info in any valid data sets.
That metric is a lie.
Hmm, okay, so what numbers are you looking at? Numbers from doctors and scientists, that is, not businesspeople with a vested interest in getting Americans to resume their 2019 consumption patterns.
Setting aside the compelling arguments on both sides about whether or not masks are effective in stopping transmission of a respiratory virus such as covid, if a person truly believes that masks stop transmission of a virus -- that is, if you wear a mask you are protected -- then there is no reason to compel anyone else to wear a mask.
You see, a person who thinks masking mandates are necessary in order to "stop the spread" of a virus is acknowledging the ineffectiveness of their mask to do just that; that is, they cannot support such a mandate while at the same time truly believing their mask does what they think it does; that it doesn't really protect them from the virus which also means it does not prevent them -- assuming they are sick with symptoms in which case they should stay the hell home until they've recovered -- from transmitting the virus to others (as the updated masking promotion goes).
That is, mask enthusiasts cannot "have it both ways." If a person truly believes that a mask is effective then it cannot matter if someone else wears one or not. But it does matter that mask enthusiasts demand -- demand! -- that everyone else wear a mask, too. That's not not logical nor is it right ... that's not how a free society -- a society based on liberty and on personal responsibility -- must function if it is to survive as a "free society."
Then again, the dogma of the mask coupled with increasingly irrational fear of this respiratory virus is not subject to reason or to logical counter-argument. So, at least for the time being, we're stuck with the liberty-crushing masking mandates in many states which maintain the powerful visual illusion that Americans are sick, including even the vast majority who are not sick, thereby perserving the fear, distrust, depression and anger throughout the general population which directly impacts the standard of living, quality of life and personal well-being of more than a quarter billion American citizens.
Hey, Texas lefties: Nobody’s stopping YOU from masking, distancing, avoiding crowds, huddling at home in abject terror and washing your hands. Just don’t insist that everyone else do the same!
