At least 100 people gathered at a rent demonstration in Detroit on Saturday afternoon following a mother who was evicted with police assistance not too long ago. People walked the streets in the metro area, shouting, “no slumlords, no cops, all evictions got to stop!” This comes as millions of Americans are behind in rent and face eviction if the nationwide moratorium expires at the end of March.
Independent reporter Brendan Gutenschwage captured the rent protest in a series of tweets Saturday afternoon. He said about 100 people turned up for the event to march through Detroit’s West Side.
The crowd was heard chanting: “When Black homes are under attack, what do we do? Rise up, fight back!”

There is an old rule in economics—that which cannot be paid back will not be paid back.
Maybe the rioters will burn down their own homes. that would let the landlord off the hook if he has his insurance paid up.
Dean Martin song Baby, It's Cold Outside.
Detroit area was 9 degrees with minus 2 degree wind chill last night. "Tent's too cold. I'll take a luxury hotel room with room service. Like those California homeless people got."
Picture of orator orating....
Amazing he and Yosemite Sam have the same stylist.
Both standing up against varmints.
dang...ain t they heard of harlem rent parties?
“no slumlords, no cops, all evictions got to stop!”
Does everything have to be a rap with these idiots?
Try this on
“You ain’t paid rent! Its long due pass!
You be a deadbeat, and you out on yo ass!”
I rent my first home and the tenant is about 4 weeks behind.
The rent pays the mortgage, insurance and taxes. The lease is up in August 2021.
I use a property mgmt firm. I am also very kind when it comes to financial problems. I have a good tenant but can understand when sometimes problems arise.
If the tenant is behind at the end of the lease the management firm will handle it.
With all respect to your ‘wit’, a lot of these people have actually been out of work - not due to their own failing, because a lot of them were hard-working people - but due to the failures of stupid politicians. (About 11,000 highly skilled, highly paid workers are now ALSO out of work - due to one especially stupid politician.)
I guess a lot of those WILL have to ‘pitch tents’.
All 100 people.
We used to be landlords in Detroit until the last tenants kept a rooster in the bathroom they used in cockfighting, amongst other issues. This was in the early 90s.
I notice they declared a moratorium on paying rent to landlords but not on paying the mortgage to the banks.
Politics 101 - if you ever give a benny you will pay the pains of hell if you later take it away.
I’m surprised. I was expecting Wakanda.
After seeing that (and Nigeria is one of the wealthier country in Africa) tell me again why whites are not justified to have a teensy bit of pride & sense of superiority regarding their race?
The Venice of Africa.
There is a Wakanda.
It is Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abuja
Government workers live in luxury in the centrally planned and isolated capital while the deplorables live in some of the worst slums in the world in the rest of Nigeria.
Abuja is where all the billions in foreign aid went....
Abuja steals all the electricity from the rest of the country.
_This_ is the future the elites plan for _us_.
Everyone in the US should learn Nigeria’s history and present—the ugly truth.
Most “educators” would not touch the topic for fear of being labeled “racist”.
As fast as that city is growing from all the influx from other parts of Nigeria, it won’t be long before it’s surrounded by squalid slums and becomes another Detroit.
My cousin has spent a lot of time in Nigeria. Lagos is an expensive city to live in if you want a clean, safe place to live. As to the YouTube, how long do you think those people would be in their houses on the water if they tried withholding the rent?
