Finally, a Republican leader declares war on Big Tech
The Hill ^ | 2/4/2021 | Liz Peek

A Republican leader has decided to take on Big Tech. It’s high time. While other Republican legislators complain and pontificate about Twitter, Facebook and Google’s interference in our elections and censoring of conservative voices, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared war on the tech giants.

DeSantis is proposing legislation that asks the Florida state legislature to impose stiff fines – up to $100,000 per day – on tech companies that “deplatform” political candidates running for office in his state. Candidates like, for instance, Donald Trump.

This is good.

It’s time for the states to fight back.

The federal government can’t coral them all.

Political candidates????

What kind of establishmentarian crap is that?

Protect your own citizens from censorship!

Why is it a civil right for biologically male students to have ‘the opportunity to participate’ in girls athletics, but it’s not a civil right to speak on a communication platform?

100k/day is walking around money for these tech companies. How about enacting government agencies should stop using any of these platforms if they engage in this type of censorship.

That's a bit more like it.
An outfit like Twitter will be brought to its knees in next to no time, especially if Texas follow suit. Twitter doesn't make that much money in the first place and their market cap is puny.

Not for Twitter it isn't, especially if its that fine for each case, and other red states make similar laws.

Section 230 needs a massive overhaul, maybe even needs to be revoked. These big tech platforms need some guidance as to how they treat the public.

Talk... talk... talk...

Propose... propose... propose...

Wake me when action against the traitorous Big Tech really happens.

And you’ll need an ultrafast stopwatch to measure how quickly some Big-Tech-bought-off (or threatened) judge declares that action unconstitutional.

DeSantis has more courage than the entire GOP congress which is totally gutless, feckless and useless.

He is protecting his citizens. You can’t even “like” a non-favored political candidate now because your candidate has been totally erased.

I emailed Mastriano here in PA the day after they cancelled Parler to do the same but i Think they need to require bandwidth. They can leave the sites alone but prefent traffic. and avoid any fines.

The interesting portion of this is that it will cost Tech 100K a day to unwind their suit against Desantis, and increasingly more once it advanced to Federal Court.

If he were to add penalties/interest and compound those fines so they increase exponentially, a year's worth of litigation would be fa$cinating.

Additionally, he should earmark everything recovered from Tech in damagers to childhood hunger or whatever tearjerker sells the best in Florida -- probably beach reclamation lol.
