M1 Carbine is chambered for .30 Carbine, a .30 cal straight wall case. Bullet weight is usually 110 grain, IIRC around 2000 FPS, Nowhere near 30.06 territory, with 150 to 220 grain projectiles in mid to high 2000 FPS range.

Lol, I do. I conduct those tests. It’s my profession. But I violated my own prohibition on posting in the dumbfuckery that is FR gun threads. Thanks for reminding me.

GI carbines shot .30 cal carbine, a pistol cartridge. Not 30.06.

Then why did you imply the .556 will not penetrate a sheetrock wall?

Not so much a downgrade as just implementing the new NATO standard in the Garand for competitive shooters. OTOH seems like I heard the Navy liked the Garand and wanted to keep it but still be compliant with the new (1957, IIRC) standard.

I'm not sure about this though; I may have heard wrong.

The 300BLK Mini is a good rifle. Be sure to purchase ammo with spitzer bullets. The round nose bullets hang up on the M4 feed ramps. Same issue in the AR-15 in 300BLK. If you want to shoot 300BLK round nose, get a bolt action. Ruger American or CZ-527 are good bolt action options.

Why would you want something that shoots through three walls and kills neighbors? A short-barrelled AR chambered for 9mm will work fine. And, it will hold 31 rounds, too.

I think an AR15 pistol would be an ideal home defense weapon

And, guaranteed to deafen you if fired indoors.

I’d think a shotgun or pistol of reasonable caliber wouldn’t be much better.

12 gauge, plain old 7 1/5 bird shot anything outside of 25 yards will bet you behind bars.
9mm sub compact.

Pump for close... Scoped SKS for medium range. Don’t even have to clean the SKS, been sitting there for years? No problem good to go...

“The Ruger mini 14 is awesome for coyote hunting. I have taken down a couple of big sows with it also. Shot the pig right in the ear canal.”

I bought the tactical Mini 14 a couple of years ago. It chambers both .223/5.56. which I thought was a cool feature.

With the damned Covid, I have yet to fire it.

The best semi auto rifle for your home is a semi auto handgun, with a $5 laser sight.

“Mini 14s and mini 30s have very poor metallurgy and I’ve yet to see one survive even a single 1,700 round class.”

How recent are your observations on the Mini 14/30?

I know the older models had accuracy issues when the barrel became heated, but supposedly the newer versions have a newly designed barrel, (In the last 7 years), that can go the distance.

Plus, I bought one two years ago, (Mini 14 tactical) and paid a pretty penny for it!
