“Experts believe cases are low due to ongoing lockdown restrictions and social distancing measures.”
‘Experts’ believe a lot of things that simply aren’t true. Perhaps the CV has been around along time and we mistook CV infections for flu.
Flu was usually judged by symptoms rather than testing.
The symptoms of Covid are about the same as those of flu, and prior to widespread testing, the symptoms were used to diagnose the disease and no doubt many cases of the flu were diagnosed, either intentionally to collect the extra money, or just automatically, as Covid.
Also, there’s nothing to prevent you from having both at once. Although there is now widespread testing, the only one tested for and diagnosed is Covid. And some of the testing relies on just scraps of unidentifiable virus floating through the system, so who knows?
It’s just that it’s in nobody’s interest to diagnose the flu.
Cases appear to be lower because the huge spikes of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s have finally passed.
We are exactly where we were a few days before Thanksgiving.
Imagine how much better things would be if all those people hadn’t insisted on traveling to large family gatherings? They acted selfishly and against their own country’s recommendations, and we have paid the price and will continue to pay it.
