Biden’s Foolish Sabotage of the Keystone Pipeline
National Review ^ | 1/19/2021 | Editorial

Posted on 01/19/2021 7:26:14 AM PST by Onthebrink

The Keystone pipeline would, if it were allowed to, carry crude from the oil sands of Alberta to Nebraska, where the pipeline would link up with the existing distribution network to send that oil on to refineries in the Gulf of Mexico. This would benefit Canadian producers and their investors, American refineries and their large, excellently paid work forces — those good, high-paying, blue-collar jobs Biden talks about — and, most important, American consumers, who would have access to yet another source of fuel at attractive prices from a nearby friendly country. This sort of thing is the point of international economic cooperation.

The notional case against Keystone is environmental in the main part, and in the lesser part an issue of Indian lands and rights. The environmental case is unsound: Canada has ratified the Paris agreement and takes environmental issues relatively seriously. Innovation and technological improvements have substantially reduced the greenhouse-gas emissions associated with Canadian tar-sands productions — by 30 percent since the 1990s, as the Canadian government calculates. Of course, it matters relatively little whether a gallon of gasoline in the tank of a Cadillac Escalade in Houston is refined from Canadian tar-sands oil or from West Texas oil — the relevant emissions come overwhelmingly from the point of combustion.

What did the morons at National Review think was going to happen if Biden got elected? Terrible, anti-American policies and laws will ensue. They hate Trump and his personality, but he wasn’t going to govern against the best interests of the USA. Biden and Harris certainly will.

The notional case against Keystone is environmental in the main part, and in the lesser part an issue of Indian lands and rights.

That may have been Obama's nominal reason for blocking the Keystone pipeline, but Biden's reason is simpler: restore the Obama legacy.

If Obama wanted it and Trump overturned it, Biden will overturn the overturn, just because Trump overturned it regardless of its positive impact on the American economy and energy self-sufficiency.

Most of the oil coming out of Canada is synacrude, it been partially processed in Canada before being put into the pipeline. It’s not completely sweet, but it’s not the bitumen laden oil as it was extracted.

There are refineries in this country that are set up to run, especially when blended with other stocks.

When a product is offered at large discounts off of the benchmark these is a lot of incentive to figure out how to use it.

My wife’s friend said she would bring the curling iron. My wife told her the house was off grid, and had no electricity. The friend replied,” I know that, but surely they have some plugins.”🙄

LOL....years ago I traveled with a curling iron that did not use electricity. I can not remember what it was fueled with. It used a cartridge of some sort. It worked very well.

He will win nobody over interferring with the pipeline. People are not ready to let go of oil. We have not advanced that far yet and what he is doing is not that smart.

I just want it staying HERE to get the prices down. $5 a barrel oil and .50 cents a gallon gas before any damned foreigner gets a frigging DROP.

Yeah, as a Houstonian, I’m going to say no to that. I’d rather prefer not turning my city into the next Detroit.

$5/barrel oil is actually not good for places like OK, TX & ND. I was told that the breakeven for most producers is between $35-55.

What fracking has done is put an upper cap on the price of oil. Wells that are capped and not pumping at under $30/barrel get opened up at $50/barrel. So, when domestic supply turns back on at above $50 it keeps it from getting to $75 like prior decades.

The most recent spike is primarily due to SA reducing output. Also, the speculation that the Biden administration will try to restrict domestic production.
Keep in mind, the fracking revolution took place during the Obama tenure. However, the main incentive was the spike in oil to $150/barrel.

So, even if they restrict fracking in some way here in the US(like Cuomo did in NYS) they can not restrict it in every other oil producing country in the world. The technology was developed in Texas and spread to ND. Now, they are using it in Nigeria, Iraq, Russia and every other oil producing nation.
