My FRiends, I am asking for suggestions to find a place to live in Texas.
We like the east Texas area, but we live way back in the woods you see. “..Woman and the kids and the dog and me...”
I live in San Antonio and I love it. I moved from central NJ and been living in SA for 15 years. Boerne and New Braunfels are the two hot markets right now. What are you looking for specifically?
I am a native NE Texan and my family has lived here since the Civil War. I attended UT Austin and also have lived 6 years in Dallas and 12 years in West Texas. The Hill Country between Austin and San Antonio is nice but I would stay out oF Austin. I also lived 7 years in Dallas but they have Dominion Voting machine so be careful although Dallas is a nice town now. I also lived 3 years in Tyler and its a nice place. Currently I live about 35 mile north of Tyler in a gated community on a gold course. My wife wants to move back to Tyler so if you need to purchase a house n a nice place please call me anytime. My next door neighbour is a coach at a local college and his wife is an author and youth minister at the local Baptist, They are good people and have two small children. I would also stay out of West Texas unless you like heat, the desert, love sandstorms, and speak Spanish.
Everyone suggesting Kerrville, TX. The west coast move-ins are pushing up property valuations and taxes out of the reach of those who work here, and make local wages.
Not as bad as has happened in Fredericksburg,TX, but still impacting dreams of home ownership for many who are actually from here.
dripping springs is nice
Heh. I’ve been reading every reply on this thread. Funny how no one has mentioned moving to the Rio Grande Valley. RGV.
Unless you are Hispanic and speak fluent Spanish, the valley is not for you.
good post on Big Bend....well said!
read Cormac McCarthy, no country for old men, and THEN decide if you’re tough enough to go to the valley.....
I grew up there too. Glad I’m out.
if you want to start a B and B, Round Top is lovely!
Your comment applies to a lot of places in Texas. And not just from West Coast transplants either. My wife and I like a lot of other folks have retired to Bandera. The traffic is bad.
And look at what Chip and Joanna Gaines have single-handedly done to Waco. Waco natives either love them or hate them. Waco used to be a nowhere town with very cheap real estate. But since Chip and Joanna have put Waco on the map, real estate prices have skyrocketed. That’s wonderful if you already owned property there.
NOT: austin, san antonio, dfw, el paso, waco, killeen (Ft. Hood) or houston.
The Hill Country (west of I-35 in Central Texas) is good.
East of I-35 is good but can get kinda Redneckish.
If You plan on exploring travel You should kinda stay in the Central Area because TEXAS IS HUGE ! The drive from Texarkana to El Paso is 11 hours+ 814 miles and that’s is the shortest route and no fuel stops.
I lived there for 40+ years, if You have any questions FRMail Me.
DPS is the State Highway Police (and everywhere else) Black and White cars.
Enjoy the Speed “not so” Limits 70/80 mph.
Local cops are jerks- I’ve lived there.
:)
Dripping Springs is nice.
I lived in Plano 35 years ad left in 2016. Frisco ws a caw pasture/prairie 15 years ago. I saw the Lib rot creeping into Plano and the taxes was horrid. We were retired anyway so we hit the trail. I miss Texas but I would NEVER again love in the Plano/Frisco area or anywhere in the northern DFW metro area. Lib-Rot is growing fast.
San Antonio is hot as blazes in summer.
But then we’re talking about TX
My daughter lives in Crosby Texas (about 15-20 miles from Houston). When I visited last year, I couldn’t help but notice what seemed like 9 out of 10 people there were sporting veteran hats from the various services. I’ve never seen so many veterans in one place in my life.
My family and I live north of Fort Worth, near Denton. The area is growing, but there is still a small-town Texas feel here. Schools are fantastic, medical is top-notch. Denton County voted for Trump over Biden by 15%, with some of the rural areas as high as 80% for Trump. We are conservative, love our BBQ, and our guns!
We made the Texodus from California eight years ago. Spent some time in Houston, but now happily reside in Plano, adjacent to Dallas.
If you’re a retiree, Fredericksburg is wonderful. We’d love to retire there eventually. Home to the Nimitz Museum, the Smithsonian-calibre Museum of the Pacific War, wineries, fun shops, great assortment of restaurants, and Lara Logan.
