They want to remake Middle Earth into Game of Thrones. Spread the word: Maybe if fans object harshly, Amazon will change their mind.
The Tolkien heirs have probably been waiting for a long time to cash in on the fantasy craze that JRR Tolkien pretty much started - let's face it, the entire fantasy genre in literature and now in television pretty much exists because of 'The Lord of the Rings'.
Christopher Tolkien served as a faithful and brilliant keeper of his father's legacy, and I'll be forever grateful to him for 'The Silmarillion' and 'The History of Middle Earth' (especially 'Morgoth's Ring'). But he's gone now and I guess the family has a right to make some money off concepts everyone has ripped off for decades. I didn't see the Peter Jackson movies - I know what Aragorn and Gandalf look like in my mind and I don't want to see what Peter Jackson thinks they should look like. I will not watch any TV series based on Tolkien's work. The books are always there.
