HYDE PARK - As a polarizing review of the planned Obama Presidential Centers impact on Jackson Park nears the end of its third year, officials say an agreement to address any negative effects the center would have on the park is still a long way off.
The so-called Section 106 review process, ongoing since 2017, has found the Obama Centers construction would affect the historic nature of Jackson Park and the Midway Plaisance. To address these concerns, a draft agreement released July 9 calls for:
- The city to file new National Register of Historic Places nominations for Jackson Park and the Midway Plaisance.
- Restoration plans for the Statue of the Republic and the English Comfort Station on the western edge of the park.
- A public review process around a new play area at the east end of the Midway Plaisance. The play area is part of a federally-required plan to replace Jackson Park land lost to the Obama Center.
- Plans for public education on the history of Jackson Park and the replacement of native trees that would be lost during the centers construction.
- Reports on the existing conditions in Jackson Park and a long-term preservation strategy for the park

The library is a Stalinist monstrosity and he wants to plop it down square on the site of the Columbian Exposition, in a historic park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.
From whence came Jackson Park, a reminder that history is important? It came out of the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago, “The World’s Columbian Exposition” (evil Columbus Anniversary). Running from May to October of 1893, it had 27 million visitors with 46 countries participating AND, AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT, it paid off all debts within its run!
Jackson Park was part of the Exhibition grounds which was designed by America’s master landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmstead, and his design was for the area to remain a park after the Exhibition close. In the accepted final design by Olmstead and his son, John Charles Olmstead, it was agreed that Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry Building (Palace of Fine Arts) would be kept as the highest structure on the Michigan Lakefront. Their thought was with that restriction, Jackson Park would remain a pristine experience of nature for future generations within the city.
THE OBAMA PRESIDENTIAL CENTER, at 180 feet, obviously towers over the park and equally obviously violates the original park design. Ah, progress, is it not wonderful!
Ha! There's a Democrat operation in a nutshell!
When Obama was an Illinois Senator he and Bill (step on the American flag) Ayers had gained total control of the distribution of funds from the Annenberg foundation which they passed its millions on to lefty fronts offering courses to Illinois and Chicago schools pushing the what soon would be the BLM agenda. Author and investigative reporter Stanley Kurtz should be asked about this when interviewed about socialist plans for the suburbs. For at that time when Obama was doing this he tried to expose those radical left study programs over a program held by WGN radio but was threatened by protesters who prevented a coherent presentation.
