Well I wonder if one can at least shoot to maime if they try to put a torch to brush after you have told them to stop. A fire can go up quickly depending on conditions and can put many lives at risk. I wouldn’t lie at all, though. If one can stop thousands of acres of destruction and save lives in the process shooting someone about to put a field to flame might be justified!(if they don’t stop when you ask them).
If you deliberately shoot to maim, you just proved that the situation was not dire enough to warrant deadly force per laws in many states. Which means *you* will go to jail.
If you are not ‘shooting to stop’ and you don’t go for center of mass unless obstructed, you can find yourself in all kinds of ugly legal trouble.
