Another US Government Abuse of Power! Two weeks ago war hero and triple amputee Brian Kolfage was arrested along with former Trump Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and two others for charges related to building a wall on the Southern Border.

That’s my thought exactly. The wording might be a little deceptive but all these 501c3’s do the same crap: they pay themselves in a way that doesn’t contradict their line.
Which is just how flimsy these charges are. They turn on maybe a poorly worded phrase that hasn’t been hyper vetted by an attorney. In other words, Kolfage and his buds are a bit amateur, and felony charges depend on one or two inartfully chosen words.
Which is beyond ridiculous and we all know Audrey Strauss ain’t going after any one of the thousands of Leftist “non profits” doing the exact same thing. And she sure isn’t sending a caravan of AR-15 toting goons to Florida to nail them. If she did, she’d need a friggin’ army of them.
I think it's a given that if they're enforcing federal law, then they're going to be able to actually enforce it. (As we've seen of late, there's a big difference between torching a local police station and torching a federal courthouse; the feds will find you and they will prosecute you.)

Processing fees aren't hidden. In any case, any single processing fee would probably be considered a de minimis amount.
I think Kolfage could make every case in the world as to why he should have received some compensation for his work; not-for-profits are certainly allowed to pay their employees. But if he told people he wouldn't take money and then he took money, he did something that was, at best, unethical; at its worst, it was illegal.
Simply saying, "But everyone else is speeding" doesn't usually get you out of the ticket; the reply is always the same: "Maybe, but we caught you."
I am not suggesting a defense for Mr. Kolfage, but rather indicating that I suspect the attorneys in the SDNY are politically motivated.
It would be a useful activity for people to check the public statements of the many non-profits out there to make sure that they really do live up to their claims. Because it seems like SDNY considers any inaccurate statement by a non-profit to lead to criminal charges related to its fundraising.
For example, remember all those public statements by Planned Parenthood about how they provided mammograms and other health care services? They turned out to not be true in many instances.
Perhaps the public should ask the SDNY attorneys to get to work on the other non-profits too.
Oh, and when it comes to the de minimus amount, $350,000 out of 25 million dollars is 1.4%. That's less than the typical processing fee rate.
From everything I've read on the subject, that's just the money Kolfage's accused of taking; the total amount steered away from the non-profit is supposed to be in the neighborhood of $1 million.
(And if the accusations are true, whether it's $350K or $1 million, it was still hidden.)
