Among the annals of national anthems as a prelude to sporting events, few have topped the one delivered by Whitney Houston before Super Bowl XXV in 1991 in Tampa. A woman, her incredible voice and the bare minimum of extraneous notes. Her rendition came at a particularly patriotic time, just after the onset of the Persian Gulf War, and was released as a single. It was re-released after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Houston donated all proceeds to charity. She ranks among the best of all-time because of the circumstances and ... that voice..
Her talent was astounding! What a shame it was squandered. May she rest in peace.
I just listened to it again, I thing Francis Scott Key would like it and the Founding Fathers could smile.
She did a great job, as did Ann Wilson for the division final that sent the Seattle Seahawks to the Superbowl.
Thank you for this. What a fantastic rendition and was so respectful. My heart aches for how it ended for her. Thanks
One of the first CDs I ever bought. Her rendition still brings a tear to my eyes.
Agree. I trust that God has taken care of of her beautiful soul.
I love to hear our National Anthem being sung the traditional way without added inflection and changes...
The ONLY exception to this is the National Anthem that was sung by Dave Bray, a Navy veteran and former singer for Madison Rising...

It gives me chills!!!!!!!!
Bobby Brown ruined hey.
We had a sports radio guy here who ended each daily program with this until he retired. For all the years he did this, it never got old.
Sorry she died the way she did, still young, really.
Also the amazing Ronan Tynan who was amazing singing at Reagan’s funeral.
it was so good, I watch the funeral at times.
So inspiring.

I feel the same and love that version too. Dave Bray is no longer with Madison Rising.
A few months ago, I helped organize a rally to encourage our county to ReOpen business and restaurants.
Before the rally, I walked around and thanked everyone who had come.
A couple was there and the guy had a Madison Rising hat on his head. I commented on the hat and his wife told me that he was the lead singer. Cool.
I invited him to come on stage but he didn’t have any background music with him.
Good guy and strong patriot.
ok, that beautiful
imho...the absolute best rendition of the National Anthem by any modern day singers. Absolutely knocks it out of the park.
And I see Pati Davis, Reagan’s daughter is actually 67 years old this year.
Thanks so much for posting.
She was beautiful.
I hate he and Madison Rising parted ways...Dave Bray is a MidEast veteran...He was a Navy Corpsman...I think he worked with the Marine Corps while over there...
Her music in Bodyguard” with Kevvin Costner, still moves me

Santana in Woodstock?????? Wrong link, I guess.
Whitney was so good that she could get away with breaking the rules -- once. Her less-talented imitators should stick to the traditional song.
