SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. Every day when I walk into work as a public-school teacher, I am prepared to take a bullet to save a child. In the age of school shootings, thats what the job requires. But asking me to return to the classroom amid a pandemic and expose myself and my family to Covid-19 is like asking me to take that bullet home to my own family.
I wont do it, and you shouldnt want me to.
(Read it all if you can stomach it)

I wonder what happens when truck drivers delivering essential food/fuel/whatnots items say the same thing? After all they ALSO "risk their lives" out stocking up on her favorite ice cream.
That’s fine, I understand.
But, please don’t expect me to pay you for not teaching, either.
“...Every day when I walk into work as a public-school teacher, I am prepared to take a bullet to save a child....”
Pssst... Dear Rebecca.... in your scenario, you taking the bullet first STILL leaves the rest of the children dead after you...
Unless YOU are armed and shoot back.
Just sayin’, because like I didn’t want to spoil your dramatic moment there....
Correct! Halt paychecks of all teachers who refuse to teach.
Hey teach, how about sending a bullet to save a child and yourself? Stop being a victim.
this is Deep State Media propaganda aimed at women voters.
She needs to learn to code. I wouldn’t want the b*tch teaching my kids.
Even better, hire H1Bs to teach in their stead.
What drama queen.
EXACTLY. Cancel my subscription to your issues, Karen. Nobody is MAKING YOU do anything. WHAT do YOU want to MAKE ME DO?
Ask not what the government can do for you, ask what the government can do to you. - paraphrasing PSYCHOPATH OBAMA. Face - Words - Deeds. He has the totalitarian trifecta (along with many other “representatives”)
Aren’t hospital staff (nurses, doctors, etc) who are treating COVID-19 in a similar situation?
Fire the asshole
“But, please dont expect me to pay you for not teaching, either.”
It’s a fine point, but that’s probably not the case.
My ex teaches in Las Vegas. The “remote” teaching took more time and effort than classroom. And she had a broader time range of availability to the students via Google Classroom.
Of course, she takes her job seriously and is rated as the top teacher in her school.
Right.
Closed schools should be in same class as closed gyms, bars, and restaurants: no work no pay.
Millions of health care workers, store clerks, first responders, and food workers all had the courage and common sense to go to work every day during the peak of the pandemic and provide for teachers and their family members. They all learned to take appropriate health measures to protect themselves and isolate those with co-morbidities that entailed greater health risk. If some teachers need to sit in another room and teach classes remotely while the room is monitored by parent volunteers that’s an option that should be considered if they are just too afraid to face a class in person.
If teachers were able to speak for themselves I’m sure most of them would gladly step up and do their duty to teach. The problem is not with the teachers but with the politically motivated unions that have coopted their voices.
I don’t think public school teachers, in their current form as unionized, will ever teach in person again, frankly.
Perhaps when there is a vaccine. If there ever is one.
We are in the midst of a huge sea change in all public education. “Child care centers” will be the new schools, and those workers will help students with their online “distance education” as phoned in by teachers working from home, as they aren’t unionized. Yet. And then after that child care centers will close too.
Private schools may continue in their current form if they are allowed to continue. The CA governor has just closed them too.
Trump needs to declare both in person schools and in person childcare essential businesses. It’s also time (long past time) to break the public teachers’ unions.
If shes that qorried she shouldnt be in the classroom.
shes forcing her personal risk issues onto everyone else.
too many people here are totally cool with doing that.
you frigging isolate yourself if you’re that concerned. dont take the risk of life outside your house then.
OK teacher, you can quit.
Wow, she needs a truckload of cheese!!
and you know why its aimed at women
If she balks at giving up her job, make her wear a mask as part of her employment FOREVER. (It's for the children you know and we can't have her getting them sick).
Make her submit to blood tests regularly and self-quarantine without pay for any contagious illness she carries for the duration of the illness. If it's a permanent condition, her unpaid suspension is until researchers find a cure.
She is also to be thanked for her support of deporting unvetted illegal aliens. (Can't have illegal alien disease vectors getting the children sick).
