Is Obama the only senator who won the Presidency?
Biden’s biggest help is the media and anti Trump sentiment.
Biden’s biggest problem is he’s a rambling fool and he’s been in DC for 40 years including part of the 8 years of a Presidency. What exactly can he say “I’ll do this” when he’s had the opportunity for decades to do it?
JFK went from the Senate to the White House
“Is Obama the only senator who won the Presidency?”
No.
JFK and Truman (Nixon and LBJ were Senators before becoming VPs, later POTUS). There were a dozen others prior to Truman.
Kennedy, as well.
16 Senators went on to became President.
No senator has ever defeated a sitting presidents reelection bid, and only once (1920) has a senator defeated a governor for an open seat.Neither senator nor VP is an executive position, and since the 12th Amendment only two sitting presidents - Andrew Jackson and Ronald Reagan - have seen their sitting VP win election to POTUS.
Its surprisingly common for both parties to nominate senators and/or VPs, even tho thats basically the only way a senator wins.
JFK in 1960, with the help of Chicago’s Mayor Daley...(if you know what I mean).
Technically, IIRC, Obama served as an Illinois senator for about a minute. The fix was in baby!
Kennedy IIRC.
JFK comes to mind.
