Fairhope is on my list. I want to see it. Orange Beach sounds expensive. I am not ruling out either but Fairhope is definitely on my list of cities to check out on my relocation scouting trip.

While not in Alabama, another place I would suggest for your search is Port St. Joe, Florida. Not far from Panama City, so shopping etc. is within reach, but a very nice safe slow-moving Gulf Coast town.

Fairhope is great. Orange Beach and Gulf Shores have been over built. The infrastructure can't handle any more there. I live in Gulf Shores, and with all the tourist this place is unbearable. Yet they keep building bigger and taller condo’s lining the beach's. It's sad really. They are building these apartment complex’s in Foley and around the area that are HUD, and section 8. The people that work in the service industry live in them.
