Medical examiner- No 'traumatic asphyxiation or strangulation' in George Floyd death
The Blaze ^ | June 29, 2020 | Carlos Garcia

After several nights of violent rioting over the death of George Floyd in police custody, the release of preliminary findings from the medical examiner's autopsy will likely not ease the nationwide tensions.

The findings were included in the charges made Friday against Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who arrested Floyd and kneeled on his neck before he died Monday evening.

"The autopsy revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation," read the summary of the findings from the the Hennepin County medical examiner.

I’m going to bet, had it not been for his interaction with the police that day, he’d likely have safely made it home without dying.

Chauvin was arrested, taken into custody and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

The charging document also said that Chauvin kept kneeling on Floyd’s neck for two minutes and 43 seconds after he became nonresponsive.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said that in addition to the charges against Chauvin that there were likely other charges forthcoming against the other officers involved.

I believe that to be a fair assumption.

In other words, there is no way that the prosecutors can prove that the police officer is guilty of any type of murder or manslaughter. The medical examiner in the autopsy stated that the restraint by the police officers “likely“ in combination with other factors led to his death. You don’t convict people based on the standard of “likely“. You convict people on proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Now you see why the DA was hesitant to file charges in the first place.

And before someone calls me a racist, allow me to point out that two things can be simultaneously true. First, it can be true that the officer used excessive and unreasonable force. Second, it can be true that that excessive and unreasonable force had nothing to do with this man’s death. By the way, I think I was lectured about 20 times over the last three days by various comments about how the victim died because he couldn’t breathe. This autopsy totally debunks the conventional wisdom that he died from lack of oxygen. Yes, he COULD BREATHE!!!!

My guess, guy had a number of heart issues, they were exacerbated by, all that PCP he smoked, and any charges filed will be undeserved.

Absolutely. The cops “didn’t du nuffin.” Never mind the excessive force applied to a handcuffed and unconscious prisoner for many minutes. Or the dirty cops failing to render aid to a clearly unconscious prisoner.

Asphyxiation not the cause of George Floyd's death: Autopsy

The Washington Times ^ | Friday, May 29, 2020 | Valerie Richardson

George Floyd died Monday from a combination of preexisting health conditions exacerbated by being held down by Minneapolis officers, not from strangulation or asphyxiation, based on the medical examiner’s initial report.

Preliminary findings from a Tuesday autopsy conducted by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner found “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxiation or strangulation,” according to the criminal complaint filed Friday against former officer Derek Michael Chauvin.

“Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease,” said the complaint from the Hennepin County Attorney.

“The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.”

...For 2 minutes and 43 seconds while he was handcuffed and unconscious. I ashamed to see cop brown nosers who call themselves conservatives defend that. Conservatives should never support this type of government criminality.

“Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease. Hmmm....

So sitting on one knee, all your weight on that and transferred to the neck of the victim didn’t exacerbate his underlying conditions resulting in his death?

I mean really. Sitting on a guys neck for 6 minutes and nothing was going to happen?

BTW, “...his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death,” it concluded.

So, what did he die of exactly? Besides a lack of oxygen to his brain?

when he was talking he was breathing....something happened almost instaneously and it wasn't anything that the cop did differently....

the guy suffered caridiac arrest or a drug overdose...maybe he had a pulm. embolism...

this does not remove the inhumanity that the cop displayed....at 19 yrs as a cop he had to know when someone has stopped breathing...
