PAUL, MN] — Governor Tim Walz today signed Executive Order 20-65, activating the Minnesota National Guard to help protect Minnesotans’ safety and maintain peace in the wake of George Floyd’s death. Local leaders have requested National Guard resources after extensive damage to private property occurred and peaceful protests evolved into a dangerous situation for protesters and first responders.

I assume the governor has had about all of this he is going to take. Put those troops at the door if every business. As the looters leave force them at gun point, if necessary, to social distance. Rioting and looting is OK by democrats, but they will not tolerate these looters taking chances of spreading the flu.

These will be REMF soldiers who will actually provide riot support. I am kind of serious based on experience. If we expect something like the 82nd Airborne in the Detroit riots that type of Infantry unit will not be deployed.

Did any of the upstanding citizens call for calm before all He!! broke lose? I don’t remember hearing this. I know it happened in other riots. Not one person called for calm and this is a big result. I also think alot of these are Antifa and other professional rioters. JMHO

The last time the Guard and Fed troops brought hell with them was the LA riots. That was my battalion, 2nd Bn 9th Marines 1st Marine Division. About 1,500 troops reinforced by LAVs. To be completely fair, the California Natl Guard did most of the work with 6K troops. US Army's 7th ID sent a brigade and task force headquarters from FT Ord. By the time we got there, most of the violence had stopped.

Since that event, the worst thing governors issued to their Guard was riot gear (here is looking at you Missouri and Maryland). That communicates to the rioters that the posture of the soldiers is to ABSORB violence. We had no riot gear: loaded rifles and bayonets and we communicated to the population that we were not there to play around. The word got out quick, and the BS stopped on a dime. The California Guard didn't have riot gear either, nor did 7th Light.
