I think one of the lessons of history is that prosecuting ex-presidents is not the greatest idea, It leads to unpleasant consequences over the long run.
There’s a reason chess ends in checkmate, not the capture of the king.
The next Democrat administration will not give Trump that same courtesy
This discussion is much to do about nothing, if the Senate called Obama to appear under oath he wouldn't show up.
Anymore than Trump would show up in the House.

Thats a reasonable comment. Once that Pandoras Box is open, the US could end up like a banana republic. The new president immediately arrests the old president for treason and corruption.
Good analogy. I think if they honestly follwo through on what Barr said, and don’t pull a Lindsey Graham, then it should be abundantly clear that there was thorough and systemic corruption that had to be known, with possibe coordination, by the king.
I will wait to see if Barr gets to checkmate, or if like so often before, this all, by design, ends up as so much water vapor wisping away over the months and years ahead.
Good insight. Many are very naive about this. A little reflection along the lines of your post and its not hard to see why the highest positions of authority must wait for the Judgement to be called to account.
Well we might still get Biden on molestation

I think the reason we have this mess today is because ex presidents were not
held accountable for their crimes. How many Ceausecu treatments would
it take to stop the nonsense? Not very many.
“prosecuting ex-presidents is not the greatest idea,”
So ... even a bigger incentive for RATS to run for high office. It’s a “get out of jail free” card for any crime imaginable.
This feels more like stalemate.
