Is the bad and self-negating behavior of so many of Trump’s enemies setting him up for an even more impressive victory in the fall?
As the coronavirus outbreak begins to reach its zenith, it remains unclear whether the measures taken to stem its tide will prove sufficient, insufficient, or an overreaction. What is certain, however, is that a number of individuals and entities have behaved shamefully and demonstrated no capacity for leadership or usefulness in this moment.
Nancy Pelosi: Gone are the mythologies that Nancy Pelosi was a pragmatic liberal voice of reason among the otherwise polarizing American Left, honed after years of paying her dues to the Democratic Party, as the mother of five dutifully ascended the party’s cursus honorum.
It does not matter whether her political and ethical decline was a result of her deep pathological hatred of Donald Trump. Who cares that her paranoia arose over the so-called “Squad” that might align with socialist Bernie Sanders to mesmerize Democrats to march over the cliff into McGovern-like oblivion? All concede that very few octogenarians have the stamina and clarity to put in the 16-hour work-days and transcontinental travel required by a Speaker of the House.
Instead, all that matters is that for a nation in extremis she is now puerile, even unhinged—and increasingly dangerous.
In retrospect, the public will remember how in fear and confusion she reversed course to spearhead impeachment, outsourced the task in the House of Representatives to its most incompetent and perfidious members—Representatives Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.)—and wasted weeks of the country’s precious energy and time as it was on the cusp of an epidemic.

Nancy Pelosi was busy ripping the State of the Union in half in a fit of spite when she could have been a leader. I mean, all of the liberals could have been leaders. They ignored COVID until it was all the media was talking about, then they couldn’t wait to run to the mics and howl how awful a job the president was doing.
Oh, sure, they took time to run to the mics to yell about how racist Trump was to ban flights from China. What an overreaction the president was making...
And most of all, you have the BernieBros pushing for single payer (codename: Medicare for all) without the slightest indication of how that would have helped this situation (hint; it wouldn’t.)
And in the background you have the inept CDC which first decided it would handle all the testing, then it released diagnostic tests to the states mandating it be done in state labs, without any thought of how many tests those labs could actually handle in a day (especially the multi-step 8 hour tests.)
It is not ironic that it was over regulation that has locked people out of test results for up to 14 days, especially in any conversation about single payer healthcare. If anything, that would usher in even more stupid regulations that impede helping patients make informed decisions.

My Dad worked in Dundalk for Taubmans. Mom worked for Glen L Martin. Haven’t heard that name in years. Lived in Essex in the 50’s.
Yes, he is. His book on WWII is a fantastic read looking at WWII far above the battlefield. I cannot recommend it strongly enough.

There is a malignity about Nanzi Pelosi that reminds me of no one more than the late and unlamented Teddy Kennedy: decrepit, arrogant, besotted with power, and completely careless of what damage the worship of that bloated ego did to the country. If/when she loses the House in November I'd have her office crap in cheap cardboard boxes in the Capitol Building hallways the very next day and her name torn off the Speaker's door with a pair of rusty pliers, in its place a sign warning of ongoing fumigation. This is a woman who was passing out her memorial impeachment pens while the viruses were pouring over the border she fought to keep open. Who is now muttering darkly about a formal investigation of the inadequacy of the same fellow's actions whose every effort she dedicated her party to opposing. This passes the bar of cynicism and hypocrisy into its proper status as simply evil.
There is, however, this to consider:

Yes. I’m in the middle of reading his “The Second World Wars” and it is excellent. One needs to know a lot about that war to appreciate it and understand it and he does a superb job.
So the election is going to revolve around two issues or perhaps one issue. The response to the virus and who is best prepared to put the economy back together. Nothing else will matter. Voters usually vote about the future, so it just may be one issue and that is putting the economy back together - we will soon find out.
The election was shaping up to be perhaps the best environment for a republican since 1980 and 1984, but that is no longer true. The election will be unique and will not be boring.
