Something is not right. Too many things do not add up.
Both Covid-19 and the influenza virus are contagious viruses that cause respiratory illness. The flu in America, so far this season, according to the CDC, has caused about 46 million illnesses, 550,000 hospitalizations and about 41,000 deaths. And yet, we have almost completely shut down our economy to the point of approaching collapse because of a comparatively small fraction of Covid-19 cases caused by another virus from China. Instead of preaching good nutrition, a healthy immune system, supplementing with extra vitamins A, C, and D, our political establishment is pushing for lock downs, face masks, and pressuring our president into creating fear and panic. Why?
Basically I'm saying there is about a 100% chance I came in contact with this Wuhan Virus. Especially when you consider the numbers coming out of NYC in recent days. But I just got through a two-week self-imposed quarantine (made possible by working at home) with zero symptoms.
Now I do eat very healthy, I walk at least five miles a day for exercise and sleep very well at night. I'm sure that helped me not to come down with symptoms.
So is this virtual shutdown of our economy worth it? I'm not so sure. There are many small businesses like restaurants, retail shops and barber shops that may never recover from this.
Speaking of barber shops, I'm way overdue for a haircut and my hair hasn't been this long since I was a recruit on Parris Island and had my shoulder-length hair razed to the floor. I'm not cutting my own hair though, I'll just have to let it grow - and it grows pretty fast.

That’s awful.... sorry. We are in the middle of selling our home. It’s all on hold now. Who knows how things will be when this ends. Real estate market crashed? Banks lending policies? At the moment we are paying two mortgages. So frustrating.
The federal and state government have involuntarily pressed millions of people into service.
They formed an enormous army, the members of which are currently working as slaves with no salary.
The members of this army are working to “flatten” a “curve”.
These people need to be paid a salary.
The federal and state governments need to commencement paying such people on a military scale.
They need to be paid at least the wages of an E1 (a private or seaman recruit).
If the federal and state governments are not willing to pay these people their fair wages, they should be forced to disband the curve-flattening army.

Covid is killing 500 & rising. It’s a crisis in NYC. Not a big deal in my little town.
I had two bad cases of pneumonia back-to-back for the first time in my life starting in mid-September and them again two days before Christmas. I was in the hospital for both cases for a day or two. The first case was definitely pneumonia the docs said. Bu they weren't as sure about the second case I got almost immediately after the first case cleared up.
In talking to my doctor, she says they weren't sure at the time exactly what I had but that it was viral. The second bout now appears to have been this coronavirus flu she told me. It was just before the publicity on it started in the media. They sent me home with instructions to follow the standard protocol for treating the flu. I did that and was feeling much improved within three weeks.
I had a fever and body aches which I treated with acetaminophen. Deep lung cough which I treated with breathing treatments with levalbuterol and ipratropium bromide inhalation solutions and a nebulizer. I drank lots of water and hot lemon tea. I slept day and night if I could for a couple of weeks. Ate hot soups several times a day. I eventually got better and one day about three weeks into it, I realized it was over with. I could breathe again, no fever or aches and the cough and mucous in my lungs was gone. It took another week or so to get my strength back for physical activity but I was cured.
In hindsight, it was no worse than a bad cold or flu which most people have experienced in their lives. Many people don't fare as well as I did if they smoke or have other medical issues. But this is always the case. I'm 72, don't smoke, exercise daily and was able to fight it off without major complications. Other who may have other issues or don't take care of their health, may not fare as well. Some people will die like always happens in flu season.
But to stomp hard on the brakes of our thriving economy is the wrong thing to do. I think that is a mistake and the cure will be worse that the virus itself.

Me, too. It is hard right now to imagine how the “end game” is going to shape out. Several different scenarios, of course, but none look easy or “normal.”
So sorry to hear of your recent difficulties. I spent 25 years riding in the back of ambulances trying to assist people with breathing difficulties. There is nothing scarier than not being able to breath.
We live in the Eastern part of King County in Washington with 500,000 Chinese immigrants. Many go home frequently and bring back new types of viruses on a regular basis. They tend to be hardworking good neighbors although their customs are different from ours and many do not learn English.
I believe that this thing was spreading around the immediate area since sometime in December. That would explain why it is now leveling off in the immediate area, while the rest of the state and the country still appear to on the upswing despite shutting down the economy. But here it seems to have run its course and the projections of our imminent demise seem to have been greatly exaggerated.

Exactly. What we've done to ourselves in response to this is ridiculous.
I heard this week they increased the number to 24,000, but I did not know it was a range with up to 62,000 deaths. Thank you.
