Near midnight, the House managers and White House legal team erupted into name calling and recriminations. The confrontation led to Chief Justice John Roberts to admonish both sides and remind them that this is supposed to be the worlds most deliberative body and that those addressing the Senate should remember where they are. He also repeated a ruling from the 1905 trial of Judge Charles Swayne that there should be no accusations of pettifogging. With those words, the pettifog (bickering over trifles and petty disputes) dissipated from the chambers.

"I simply welcome the return to 18th century standards and lexicon. Notably, pettifogging (which concerns petty disputes) or brabbling is less of a problem as excogigating about ways to avoid the issues at trial.
Roberts was not trying to quockerwodger counsel or leave the defense little more than sluberdegullion. However, there is little need to be beef-witted in the well of the Senate.
It is all enough to leave you feeling crapulous about the whole process."
The whole of the impeachment accusations is pettifogging.
Roberts allowed the House Managers to run the show. To create a hostile environment.
Then when Republicans correctly responded - then he took both sides to task.
Roberts - to no one’s surprise - is a partisan democrat hack.
False. Nadler acted like a clown. The White House Council called him on it and Roberts echoed the same point the WH Council made.
It was a sever direct rebuke of Nadler and the Democrat Fascist Party clown machine. However the Fake News will never report the truth about their Democrat Fascist Party masters so, once again, they are busy lying about it feverishly today.
Exactly what I was thinking. No corrections from Roberts when Nads called Trump’s team liars, only after Trump’s team fought back. That’s why we elected Trump......finally a Republican who fights back. He’s the one we’ve been waiting for all these years. Roberts can stick his head yup where somewhere is dark.
I “admonish” roberts for allowing him self to be compromised by the DS some time ago. He should resign in shame.
I wonder if Traitor Roberts would have even said anything had the republicans not responded. I dont trust Roberts any farther than I could throw him.
No, he wouldn’t have said anything. It is what I expected from Roberts. He had no call to include the President’s attorneys in his admonition.
That’s a Never Trumper for you.
Judges will often admonish both parties when it is really one party causing the trouble to continue to appear impartial. You can usually tell who they mean, though, and in this context it’s pretty clear he was directing the admonition to Nadless.
