Jake Sherman is no fan of Republicans in general or of President Trump in particular. He's the author of an unflattering book about the Trump White House, in which he also described Mitch McConnell's handling of the Kavanaugh confirmation as "merciless" and "Machiavellian."
So it was surprising to hear Sherman, on today's Morning Joe, express support for the notion of McConnell initiating a Senate trial even if Nancy Pelosi hasn't delivered the articles of impeachment. Sherman didn't merely report that it is "a very real possibility" that the Senate would conduct a trial in such a situation, and that the Republicans "would be well within their rights, in their mind."
But he also expressed support for the GOP position, saying that if Pelosi held onto the articles until getting what she wanted, she would be "subvert[ing] the will of the House of Representatives . . . That's not a sustainable proposition."

Dunno. But to me, McConnell is just another politician in it for himself and his political future. I would trust him as far as I could throw him.
NO TRIAL! The articles, as passed by the criminal leftists in the House, are UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Immediate dismissal is the ONLY proper response.
Sherman would just hate it if Senate Republicans gave the media an excuse to go hog wild. There is a Constitutional process wherein the House must send a delegation. McConnell wants to stick to the Constitution, not the advice of a Politico Liberal. Cue the Napoleon quote about when your enemy is destroying itself, don’t interrupt.
I saw some interesting commentary on why Pelosi is withholding the articles of impeachment. The articles create a fog around Trump, in Democrat’s minds. When Justice Ginsberg dies the Democrats want to say that Trump can’t nominate a successor because he is under suspicion of (fill in the latest narrative here.) If Pelosi submits the articles of impeachment and the Senate summarily disposes of them, not only have they lost Pelosi’s fog around Trump, but he has also been vindicated and cleared. How will the Democrats stop the nominee then? It will likely be a woman, so the old standby, he raped me in kindergarten, won’t work.

I predict that there will be more criticism of republicans than democrats in this thread, and that very few people will have a problem with that.
That plus she's hoping more stuff comes out while she waits.
The reporting on the unredacted emails between OMB and the Pentagon about withholding Ukraine aid being an example.
McConnell is smartly not showing his cards over the holidays, since he can’t do anything, anyway. I suspect next week he will give the Dems 10 days to send over the vote...otherwise the Senate will vote to acquit or dismiss and that will be the end.
It’s hard to believe there’s a democrat - other than Turley - with principles. I’m guessing there’s a trick in this suggestion that would hurt Trump - they’re all scum.
McConnell is moving in on ninety. Realistically, he has no political future. Have to assume he’s doing what he thinks is right at this stage of the game.

Maybe as has been suggested, Trump for some reason wants this thing to linger a bit. Maybe. I hate it but it’s gotta be really bad for the Delusional Dems. So maybe letting it linger may work for us. We’ll see.
IF the House doesn’t turn over any evidence or vote on ‘fake evidence’ how can the Senate vote on something that isn’t there...

I think some Dems believe that they can detach Collins and Murky and perhaps others from the majority and have a public show trial in the Senate with all the witnesses the Dems want. The media will flog it for all its worth and who knows, maybe they get Republican votes for impeachment? It's a long shot but it's all they really have left.
I'm in the minority, but I think it's smart for McConnell to refuse to start Senate proceedings until Pelosi sends the Senate the Articles and appoints Managers, with no preconditions.
