A little earlier today, Nancy Pelosi decided that more of the Schiff-show was not going to be helpful and she directed various House committees to proceed with drafting articles of impeachment against President Trump.

It is pretty obvious that this hurried decision to move straight on to drafting articles of impeachment is a direct result of the issue being a non-seller basically everywhere. While is is giving the left a thrill up their whatever, it is locking in Republican support for Trump and moderates are seeing it as a distraction and a political hit on the President. Support for impeachment hit the high tide mark weeks ago and is slowly receding. This is not to say that it will ever go away but it will only be popular among Bulwark contributors and others who have a pathological hatred of President Trump.
The Democrats should tread warily here. Mitch McConnell is not going to take the easy way out and simply call a vote to dismiss the charges…though he could. He’s said he will go through with a trial. And McConnell will set the rules (the Chief Justice presides but the rules are made by the majority). The odds of him refusing to let the President call witnesses to demonstrate that his request of Ukraine President Zelensky was valid approach zero. The odds of Adam Schiff not being called if the President’s defense team wants it also approaches zero. Biden has already said he will not:

That’s fine and that is what President Trump is hoping for.
As the left says, when they aren’t saying something completely different, this is a political, not a judicial process. The imagery of the President’s team claiming that this is all a sham and Democrats witnesses refusing to testify will make the case for dismissal in the most epic way possible.
If this goes to the Senate, neither McConnell or Trump have any interest in not discrediting the Democrats and the process. And it is difficult to see them passing up this opportunity.
I take no solace in the fact that the very compromised, Chief Justice John Roberts has anything to do with presiding over this trial. I don’t think he’s in a position to be impartial.
Agree; no guarantees he has the GOP Senate and certainly no guarantee Justice Roberts would be an honest judge.
Plead the 5th. Simple as that. If subpoenaed, he can fight the subpoena. If he loses, he has to show up, but the 5th Amendment guarantees he doesn’t have to say anything more than..I am invoking my 5th Amendment right. And he’s done. Unlike Lerner, who started to answer and then clammed up, which she is not allowed to do, if you start off invoking the 5th, that’s it.
Just watch any cop show, especially the first 48, and you’ll see darn near everyone thinking they can outsmart the cops. What they never realize is, they’re making stuff up as they go. The cops are taking notes. They can’t keep track of their story or timelines or anything else and when the cops catch that one contradictory tidbit, it’s over.
Biden actually believes he is smart. He doesn’t realize just how dumb he is. And, he’s been getting away with it for a long time. I also believe that he’ll think he’s on safe ground with the Senate. I’m betting that the President already has his tweets ready to go, calling Biden a coward for not testifying. What kind of leader would he be if he doesn’t testify. If everything with his son was above board, what is he hiding. POTUS will goad him to show up.
Then, all it’ll take is one to ask the right question. Biden will go on a rant, not have any idea what he’s saying and bury himself and his son. Could be a good time.
Sounds like a meet-up. Count me in.
With such a flimsy case, the Democrats are showing this to be nothing more than a partisan fit. While many in the GOP senate might not be all that fond of Trump, they know this is bigger than him. This is for the long term. The Senators can look past the next four years.

The dems have shown that they want to play hard ball. I think this is going to make some fighters out of some RINOs. Look what the Kavanaugh hearing did to Lindsey Graham. McCarthy was pretty fired up during his noon presser - he might be the first RINO convert.
Rush just cheezed out of this with a question from a women that it has to be organic, in other words, he has to protect his brand, and will not promote or instigate it.
But with that said you are right a trip in our future.

Trump should still be allowed to call witnesses that impeach the character and veracity of his accusers, which then casts doubt on the veracity of their charges against him.
He should be allowed to show that his accusers stand to personally gain by his impeachment, which is their charge against him - that he is the one personally to gain by his official actions.
This defense counters the Democrats' charges, as it shows them to be greater offenders of what they are accusing Trump of doing, and they are impeaching him only to cover up their own crimes.

If Biden ignores the subpoena, according to the libs he would then be obstructing justice. Therefore if elected president would need to be impeached and removed on his first day in office.
Then I say it’s time to open the can of worms that is the stench in that town. These people are so used to getting what they want and if/when all hell breaks loose, they will be in for a rude awakening which will be much deserved.
Trump will make the real rules during any Senate trial. He isn't about to be silenced by whatever the RINOs in the Senate think up. Trump can, if he decides it would be helpful, hold rallies in the states of various Senators who would like to get re-elected, and invite them to come - or lose the next election.
Weak Republicans of the traditional sort worry about the rules in a Senate trial. Trump knows it is really political theater and he is a master at that.
The people who should worry are the Republicans and Democrats in the House and Senate who want to get re-elected in 2020.
Then Nancy will have to punish him for obstruction.
but Mittens doesn’t make the rules. Willard is only one of the majority. and a newby at that.
McConnell has more control over that then Mittens.
They are covered for "speeches" and "debates", not for testimony in a impeachment hearing.
No one will charge them; they are elites and the DOJ is hopelessly corrupt itself.
