Universities may not target unpopular speech on campus often, but when they fail to protect it, the results are similar to officially silencing speech. A recent example of this lack of effort to protect comes from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where an anti-socialism display was destroyed on campus within a day after the Young Americans for Freedom campus group erected it.
I am the founding chairwoman of YAF at UNC Charlotte. I started this group to bring together students who are committed to free speech and the belief in a free marketplace of ideas. Our club hosts meetings with a diverse group of students whose political opinions are extremely varied. Our members share one thing in common, though: The belief in the power and importance of free speech.
Our theme for October was the debate over socialism and capitalism. After several discussion sessions in which we provided literature for and against both sides, and after hearing from several experts, our members decided they did not support socialism. Some of our members also realized that this opposition to socialism was not well-received on campus and in the classroom. Many of our members voiced that they were ostracized in class for anti-socialist sentiments, while others were reprimanded or suffered lower grades for supporting capitalism.
To publicly oppose socialism and show other students they werent alone in preferring capitalism, our club created a display of 21 cardboard tombstones, each representing a country with the number of lives lost in that country due to socialist ideologies. We spent a Wednesday afternoon creating the display, drawing, cutting, painting, and writing the statistics on each stone. This process took us over four hours, but we happily worked, knowing we were going to be educating our peers on an incredibly important issue.

“There was a 1999 book “The Black Book of Communism: Crimes, Terror, Repression” on the same topic as their posters”.
That applies in this instance.
Thanks for posting.
The We Like Free Stuff Snowflakes at our indoctrination centers are in for a huge shock when they learn that they can’t have their socialism without a capitalist system to subsidize it. Somebody has to pay for all their free stuff. Pinatas don’t grow on trees. Somebody has to put them there.
“Somebody has to pay for all their free stuff”
The snowflakes will do well in the work camps set up for them./s
I can forgive young and dumb students for thinking socialism is a good thing.
Can Not forgive their elders however.
Reading about Churchill helped me move through that phase.
But then theres this

These quotes make for good storytelling but popular myth has falsely attributed them to Winston Churchill Conservative by the Time Youre 35 If youre not a liberal when youre 25, you have no heart. If youre not a conservative by the time youre 35, you have no brain. There is no record of anyone hearing [ ]
Well I heard it because of Churchill anyway.
Some professor somewhere should do an experiment. For the first month everything should be graded as normal. Extra credit should be a available. The weekly sum of test scores plus extra credit will be defined as weekly GNP. Then the second month, points should be distributed such that anybody who gets more than a C has his points given to anybody who got less than a C, so everybody gets between C- and C+. Extra credit gets taxed progressively depending on how close to B one gets where it gets taxed 100%. Then at the end, display the graph of GNP
Hmmmmm. Apparently being anit-socialism is akin to supporting the evil orange empire currently ruining this country? Ya know, maybe we have stumbled on to something. Orange armbands anyone? Or is that too obvious. Salute to Veterans today.
Sounds like something right out of the USSR’s Pravda
Paint the display heavily with ninhydrin. It is colorless - UNTIL - it reacts with the proteins in skin to make a deep purple color. Anyone touching the display will have purple hands about two hours after the touch and it can’t be washed off, but has to wear off - takes about a week.
When authorities wont deal with criminal acts, the people will take the law into their own hands.
Build it again....I’ll help guard it.
I’ll take the midnight to 8 rotation.
There are times when such things are erected, that you should *assume* they are going to be vandalized, so you put up discreet security cameras around, that are turned on when the last person leaves the site.
I propose taking it a step further. If you can get stills of their face(s), print out “wanted posters”. Not for what they actually did, but with farcical accusations, like they are “neo-Nazi racists”, “right wing extremists” and “anti-Muslim activists”.
Desperate to not be called those names, they will have to confess to their vandalism. And if they do, and the information gets to the administration, if they do nothing, then they can be accused of “standing up for their racist, neo-Nazi friends.”

Favorite commie sycophant retorts:
“But it’s NICE to get free stuff and call everyone equal.”
“THEY JUST DIDN’T DO IT RIGHT!”
There you go
“Students Tear Down Anti-Socialism Display, but UNC Charlotte Wont Investigate”
Not students but stupids.
The university admins probably allowed them to do it.
Good thing it wasn’t UNC Asheville, the subset of the student body that’s completely insane as opposed to stoned into drooling stupidity would already be having show trials for the counter revolutionaries who dared to put up an Anti-Socialism display.
