WAPAKONETA — President Donald Trump will be visiting Auglaize County this weekend.
News Center 7’s Gabrielle Enright went to Wapakoneta to talk with residents and see the Australian-owned plant that he will be visiting.
About 10,000 people call Wapakoneta home, and the reason for Trump’s visit is a big deal to some residents.
“It’s a big deal, I think,” Peter Caldes said. “I’m not into politics that much, but for the people, it’s jobs. The people come first.”
On Sunday, Trump will be meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and touring the new Pratt Industries facility.
The paper plant is currently under construction to expand, and is expected to open next month, creating 300 jobs.
“We’ve got the land for it. We’ve got plenty of people willing to work. They made a good choice,” resident Grace Walls said about Pratt Industries.

Busy schedule for Trump. He’ll be in Ohio and Houston for the “Howdy, Modi” event both on Sunday. And then to the UN on Monday. Does Trump ever rest?
This is great news for Ohio.
As far as Trump resting, some people get re-charged by big events, lots of people. He might be an adrenaline junkie. The worst thing that could ever happen to him would be to stay home and do nothing for a couple of days!
The residents should press the President for the Interstate Highway extension from I-270 in Marysville to I-75. It has been in the “planning” stages for 25 years. A connected inter state highway would create a boom for Wapakoneta and the entire area.

They’ve already got US33. As it is, Marysville is far closer to Columbus (which is exploding in growth again) to the point where Dublin/Plain City and Marysville are almost together at this point.
33 is a 2 lane road past Marysville and around Lake St. Marys - Back to Voinovich days, Honda was promised a 4 lane divided Highway to I - 75. Still not done. That is why Honda bulit their last 2 plants in Indiana and Alabama.
Rumor is that Honda is planning to pull more production out of Marysville unless the highway is built.
