I’ve lived through 78s, 45s, LPs, R2R, 8T, cassettes, CDs, Ipods, Pandora, and MP3s. Of them, I most value my turntables and vinyl. For me, it’s akin to the Japanese tea ceremony. CDs are just for car tunes.

In the 50s my mother, who always had music going in the house, was member of the RCA victor record club. A new 78 every month, Rosemary Clooney, Eddie Fisher and so many others.

We moved to cal in 59. When we unpacked, no 78s, no baseball cards, no comic books, none of my sisters elvis 45s or posters. “We don’t need them here,” my mother declared.
