Nixon had a very lame, secret plan to exit VN.

True enough. Along with his screwy actions to "fight inflation": Phase I, Phase II, Phase II and-a-half, etc.

But from what I can tell it's this commie fairy tale about the mythical Southern Strategy that's front and center in what the young'uns learn these days. It "explains" why Republicans are racists and Democrats are the champions of POC. Up is down and down is up.

Here is a taste of actual history. Nixon’s plan to exit the war began shortly after inauguration. it was called “Vietnamization” and meant that troops would be gradually pulled out, beginning in 1969. That happened, and the war did end after a long withdrawal. The “southern strategy” was an idea that was neutralized by the emergence of the George Wallace candidacy. Wallace won several Southern states and Nixon took the rest. But “Southern Strategy” was little more than a talking point in reality.
