Army manuals illustrate a lot of improvised weapons based on this simple design. I’d trust 3/4 inch galvanized pipe for a few shots. The idea would be to acquire a better weapon with the improvised one, I would think.
TRUE. - During WWII various small resistance groups in Europe made any number of improvised pistols/shotguns/other weapons to use, generally for one or a few shots, to acquire a factory-made firearm from an unwary member of the German military/police formations. - Even some crude gunpowder & explosives were made from “scratch” using some simple/locally procured substances like sulphur, potassium nitrate, charcoal, MOGAS & diesel fuel.
(The British War Office & other groups like the SOE actually produced/scattered “cartoons” to give basic instructions on making/using “field expedient weapons” & simple means to commit sabotage of enemy materials.)
