Honestly, I can relate to what he said, why wouldn’t he miss sex with his hot wife, I just don’t know why he would have said that to the interviewer. Maybe he was on the sauce.

Nixon wanted Boggs to run one more time and then have him resign in a year and “appoint” (have the Governor appoint obviosuly) Pete Du Pont to the seat? What was the point of that? Would have failed anyway as the rats won the gubernatorial election. Such a horrendous lack of coattails.
Bite me had apparently been a Republican before he ran for office (albeit clearly a left-wing Rockefeller type) because he’d been put off with the Conservative Democrat Governor of Delaware in the mid ‘60s, Charles Terry. Terry was beaten by the liberal RINO Russ Peterson in ‘68 (Peterson later became a Demonrat after falling in love with Bubba Clintoon). Bite me supported Peterson, who won by just a slim 2k vote margin.
Curiously, had Terry won reelection, he’d have died in office in 1970. Had he managed to make it to 1972, given how badly opposed Bite-me was to him, I can see that Terry probably would’ve gone the extra mile to keep Bite-me from either having been nominated or elected in the general. Indeed, Terry might’ve run himself for the Senate and an ugly internecine battle would’ve resulted, and would’ve handed Boggs a 3rd term. Alas, even at that, it might’ve only delayed Bite-me’s career by a short while, since presumably he would’ve run for Governor in 1976 (had Sherman Tribbitt not run and won in ‘72) or against Sen. Bill Roth or against Pete du Pont for the House in ‘74.
