Trump says he opposes nationalizing U.S. 5G network

President Donald Trump said Friday the United States should not nationalize its 5G network and said private companies should move quickly to deploy the faster next-generation network.

“In the United States our approach is private-sector driven and private-sector led. The government doesn’t have to spend lots of money,” Trump said. “Leading through the government, it won’t be nearly as good, nearly as fast.”

The White House mulled the idea of nationalizing the 5G network for more than a year. In March Politico reported that Trump’s reelection campaign supported a government role in managing the 5G networks even as White House officials including top economic adviser Larry Kudlow have said for months they oppose the idea....

Cars!! Now i see the main advantage.
This will be necessary if Self Driving vehicles will safely work en masse. But that means, all other drivers will have access to all my information, even my destination.
Maybe that complete loss of anonymity won’t be for another 25 years or so. By then i’ll be doing much less driving, assuming i still walk the planet.

I don’t have enough information to know if it should be nationalized or not. I do know that if it is, my local cable company will use that reason to charge more, and create “haves” and “have nots” for full computer and cable TV access.

Read this, then decide whether you want it. Millimeter technology can be blocked by anything, so it’s really quite useless, and the DOD is loathe to let go of sub-6 which is actually useful.

Yes the big selling point is going to be autonomous cars, where your family can drive to Disney World as a passenger in your own car....morning commutes will be faster in congested cities as all traffic will be managed by a centralized system. Can you imagine the injuries that could result from an outage? Thousands of untrained drivers at highway speed would suddenly be behind the wheel of out of control cars. This would also open our entire transportation system to malicious hacking or terrorism - from somewhere outside the US.

Trump knew this way before he became President, but since he's been in office, he's lived through the bullshit, and knows that gummint is all talk, no action.

The downside is that millimeter wave signals don’t travel as far.

And they cause Erectile Dysfunction, scabies, heart problems, nose bleed, dementia and...and... :)

Yup. If people were paying attention to what they’re *actually* getting for however many hundreds they’re spending a month...

For sure - when we first got “4G”, most ares were defaulting to 3G because you need to be close to a tower to get 4G...5G will require even closer proximity and there aren’t enough towers/repeaters to facilitate it at this time.

5G will change everything. There’s dozens of technologies that will leverage it, just waiting for its deployment.

Having gigabit throughput with low response latencies is a game changer.

That said, it’s not 5G that PDJT needs to worry about (being a public utility) it’s the tech giants that use the bandwidth - i.e. Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc.. They’ve all become too influential.

5G is dangerous.....yeah, we heard about brain cancer from phones for more than a decade....never happened.

I am sure private companies want to deploy something harmful because they love the lawsuits.

Remember Y2K? It’s all you heard about. It brought in the tech boom. People bought new computers, movies were made about how it would cause planes to fall from the sky, etc. etc. etc.

5G will be like that, but bigger.

People will buy new phones, new tablets, new modems, new TV’s. It’s going to be YUGE.

Will it lead to another “dot com” style crash afterwards? Maybe, maybe not....but the boom will be there.

My God, you’ve got a sorry line of thinking and knowledge there.

I see from your profile page that you work in sales and marketing for Manheim, the auto dealer/used auto parts sales network services subsidiary of Cox.

Go ahead, just sell, sell, sell—the world will be such a better place with 5G satellites and stations worldwide, so you can sell more tech stuff.
