President Donald Trump tweeted Thursday morning that the FBI and Department of Justice would review the decision by Illinois prosecutors to drop all charges the actor Jussie Smollett faced for allegedly fabricating a hate crime against himself.

Trump called the prosecutors' decision "an embarrassment to our Nation!"

Federal officials confirmed to NBC News that the Justice Department is reviewing the Smollett case and how it was handled, though expectations were low Thursday that any federal action would be taken.

Smollett attorney Tina Glandian said on "Today" that "we have nothing to be concerned about" regarding the potential federal probe.

I hope someone who is knowledgeable about the Federal laws that are the basis for the investigation of what appears to me to be simply a political decision not to prosecute.

While that is a terrible thing it is common as dirt in Chicago.

So what Federal Stautes has been violated?

And the dumba$$ does not know when to stop digging.

He’s on TV today saying he’s going to sue them for “harassing an innocent man.”

I am betting the cell phone had calls from Kamala Harris and Cory Booker that night... that is why they slammed shut this door so fast

Yes, Mr. President, it is indeed an embarrassment. Especially in Chicago. An activist intervened to save Jussie.

Thank God! He is the only non-Democrat who would EVER have the guts to pursue this outrageous hoax and hold the perpetrator accountable.

Everyone keeps repeating that he sent the letter to himself. That is not entirely accurate. He sent the letter to himself AT THE SET OF THE TV SHOW EMPIRE. That makes it a completely different matter altogether. There are other people there that were exposed to the “terror” that a letter full of white powder would generate. He may very well skate on that too BUT he is guilty as hell and it is a big Federal violation.

Well the mail fraud issue exists with him creating and sending the fake hate mail to himself.

The hate crime hoax is not within Federal jurisdiction as far as I can see. It’s up to Chicago and Cook County.

The mail fraud thing is something separate and I don’t believe that’s what the president is talking about. So I think this is mostly political posturing on his part.

With the fix in, why did they charge him at all? Then dismiss and seal the file? Really? I don’t know what’s worse; the corruption or or the incompetence! They couldn’t have been more blatant.

I know that. Should be a slam dunk case if they choose to indict.

But the news reports refer to a federal investigation of the shenanigans that went on to let Smollett off.

The Federal laws violated in that area are less than obvious to me.

Wel there are connections to kamala harris and michelle obama putting pressure or influence to get the investigation dropped.

Federal conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges at the very least.

Smullets could be open to Federal prosecution on charges involving the US Mail. But unless there is actual evidence of corruption in the way the Cook County DA’s office handled the case, there is not much that can be done. Strongly suspecting corruption is not enough. If it was, the entire Cook County DA’s office would have been disbarred decades ago. It burns me to admit it, but that @$$—— is pretty much off the hook on the most serious charges that could have been brought.

the RUSH to seal the records of the case - indicates there is something that needs to be hidden.

This could be a little as embarrassment to Mayoral candidates or possible larger conspiracy involving dem leadership.
