Niacin and possible liver damage https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK548176/
From that reference: “... certain formulations of niacin have been linked to clinically apparent, acute liver injury which can be severe as well as fatal.”
*****
The “formulation of niacin” that they’re referring to is probably niacinamide, which is a chemical modification of niacin designed to prevent niacin flush. Niacin — nicotinic acid — is safe in multigram doses. A common dose for schizophrenia is 12 g, twice a day.
Another option for tinnitus.
Read reviews here - search at Amazon:
Nature’s Life Bioflavonoids 1000mg per Serving | 250 Capsules | More Than 4 Months Supply | Lemon Bioflavonoid Complex, Hesperidin & Rutin | Antioxidant for Healthy Capillaries & VIT C Absorption
Lemon bioflavonoids are pretty effective at reducing or eliminating tinnitus.
Maybe use instead of vitamin c in the protocol above.
Not a Doc so decide yourself.
For anyone with tinnitus, or meniere’s disease, this could be important treatment info…

The niacin/glutamine/folic acid protocol is yet another option for tinnitus. Not knowing she ever had tinnitus, I mentioned to a friend of mine who was two months into the niacin protocol that niacin was helping people with tinnitus. A little startled, she revealed that she had previously been having problems with tinnitus — but not since she started on niacin.
Green black walnut hull tincture:
This tincture is like a homemade Ivermectin. Green black walnut hull tincture is a very important medicinal to have in your medicine cabinet. It is antimalarial, antifungal, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antioxidant, kills parasitic infections, reduces heart disease and so many more ailments inside and outside the human body. The herb is said to help control menorrhagia, the excessive loss of blood during periods. Black walnut is effective against pinworm, ringworm, tapeworm, and other intestinal parasites.
Green black walnut hulls are also a good source of beta-carotene, acids, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, silicon, zinc, tannin, B-vitamins, and vitamin C.
Dosage amount for a adult is: take 20 drops in a little water/juice 3 times a day for a week.
To use externally put several drops of tincture on a cotton ball, and dab on the athlete’s foot, warts, ringworm, psoriasis, eczema and other fungal infections. Make sure that there is enough on the cotton ball to doctor the area. Note: this will stain your skin brown temporarily.
I’m not sure about the Black Walnut and Wormwood tincture, but I hear it’s also a miracle worker for parasites.
Thanks for the info. Years ago I rented a place that had a walnut tree in the backyard. Wish I had one now.
I used wormwood tincture for parasites (pinworms, kids got ‘em and so did I) and it worked...but they kept coming back no matter what. Wormwood is toxic so people have to be careful with it. What got rid of them was raw garlic, 3X a day for a week or two. My kids of course hated it but it worked.
I’m going to post some info about constitutional body types and fasting today, and I’ll ping the list to your info and the tinnitus info as well.

I’m surprised I never posted specifically about Amalaki. I saw it mentioned elsewhere, so here is some info. I take it daily in a blend with Hawthorne and Rosehips, which also contain natural vit C.
Amla, or amalaki fruit:
Rejuvenating tonic, cooling, anti-inflammatory, antacid, carminitive, stmachic, hemostatic, laxative.
Useful for: Femented digestion, tissue deficiency, debility, gastritis, colitis, ulcers, hemorrhoids, constipation, diarrhea, osteoporosis, biliousness, liver and spleen disorders, hair health, fever, gum disease, debility of old age, mental weakness, heart disease, anemia, bronchitis, asthma, diabetes.
Amalaki is one of the best rejuvenating tonics in Ayurveda and is especially pacifying to pitta - excess heat or inflammation. It is one of the richest sources of Vit C and remains stable even after heating. It strengthens the immune system, enhances ojas (subtle basis of vitality) and nourishes all bodily tissues. Reduces excess heat and inflammation throughout the entire GI tract, so is helpful for the conditions described above as well as intestinal bleeding. It has an affinity to the liver, spleen, pancreas, lungs, eyes, and heart, and helps the body to better utilize calcium and regulate blood sugar.
Amalaki nourishes bones and promotes the growth and strength of hair, teeth, and nails. It supposrt liver function, and useful for jaundice and hepatitis, and other excess heat conditions affecting the plasma and blood such as hives, rashes, acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It is a rich source of iron, is thus a blood building tonic. Useful for gingivitis and bleeding gums. It is the basis of the traditional Ayurvedic tonic jam Chyavanaprash, along with other supportive herbs, which promotes vitality, vigor, and strength
PS - I call my Amalaki, Hawthorne and Rosehips blend “Natural C”.

Info about Hawthorne and Rosehips since I mentioned my blend above.
Hawthorne berry: I posted on the thread its benefits for the heart, here are other uses.
carminitive, stimulant (not in a bad way), vasodilator, tonic.
Uess: heart disorders, arteriosclerosis, valvular insufficiency, blood clots, tumors, impacted wastes, old age, gout.
Hawthorne is commonly used as a heart tonic, but its sour taste indicates it helps digestion as well. It has warming and stimulating properties and is a mild coronary vasodilator, thereby increasing blood supply to the heart muscles. It can be used in the treatment of arteriosclerosis, hypertension, blood clots, arrhythmia, and extra systole. Its tonce action can help to stimute heart function in deficient conditions, or depress it in conditions of excess.
It helps to pull uric acid from the tissues and is useful in the treatment of gout. As a digsetive herb, it kindles the digestive fire thus promoting digestion, and helps break down accumulated or impacted food masses and even tumors in the GI tract. In moderation it can help tot treat slow disgestion, and can help lower high cholesterol.
Hawthorne helps the body utilize Vit.C and being rich in bioflavanoids, it has antioxidant properties. Like Amalaki, it helps to strengthen, repair and promote the growth of bodily tissues.
Rosehips
Astringent, antidiuretic, tonic.
Used for diarrhea, frequent urination, spermatorrhea and leucorrhea, and hemmorhage. Helpful for weak kidneys, cooling to the blood. Considered to help with many female problems including threatened miscarriage. and a source of Vit. Can take as powder or tea, pleasant tasting.
Thank you, lj, for this information. I take Hawthorne together with vit. C which contains rosehips.
Many people have GI tract issues. Divirticulitis, gastritis, and crohn’s disease are a few, plus the usual constipation and others. Some herbs can be helpful for these and related issues. Tomorrow I will post more herbs helpful for similar GI tract issues.
Marshmallow Root
Properties: nutritive tonic, demulcent, expectorant, emollient, vulnerary, diuretic, laxative [NOT heavy duty]
Used for:
Dry cough, whooping cough, sore throat, laryngitis, respiratory tract infection, inflammatory conditions of the kidneys and bladder, gastritis, crohn’s disease, ulcers, infections, skin eruptions, constipation, hyperacidity, diarrhea, cuts and wounds, tissue wasting, general debility, malnutrition.
Marshmallow is mucilaginous and soothing to inflamed mucous membranes of the GI and urinary tract. It is a sweet, heavy, and nutritive tonic, pacifying to those with excess heart or dryness, and helpful in disorders of the GI tract including gastritis, peptic ulcer, diarrhea, constipation, ulcerative colitis, nd crohn’s disease, as it is soothing and healing to any damaged tissue. It can be used along with licorice. For constipation, it can be mixed with psyllium husks to enhace its effect.
To tonify the lungs, it can be taken with herbs such as mullein, licorice, comfrey root or elecampane. For bronchial congestion, it can be mixed with ginger, pippali, yerba santa, osha, or elecampane.
When DH went to our Dr (who is a naturopath) for a checkup, he mentioned he had travelling pains in the lower abdomen. After palpating the area, she deduced it was likely diverticulitis and recommended using Mashmallow root. She told us to use it thus, for one person:
1 Tablespoon shredded Marshmallow in one quart cold water, soak overnight. In the morning, strain and drink. He did that and felt much improved. Then he took a break, and he started up again recently but I’m splitting the quart with him as he doesn’t want that much. I’ve found that “going” is easier, and he does not have those pains any more. It has a very mild not unpleasant taste, and is just very mildly slippery, like slightly viscous water.
I ordered a pound of Marshmallow on Amazon, it’s not expensive, and a pound is huge as it is light and fluffy. I pack into a tablespoon as it is so fluffy.

I told a good friend who has gastritis, and she has found it helpful. She is lax with herb taking, so I will remind her.
Thank you much 👍
Sometimes GI tract issues are embarrassing to ask or talk about, but many of us have something weird at one time or another. Or all the time! haha
True. We will talk about our pinky finger or our toe or joint in our foot… But sometimes G.I. tract stuff is taboo… But that’s from pride. I find your posts helpful! Even if I am just saving them for later. 👍
