BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA Gov. Ron DeSantis sent a letter to President Donald Trump on Tuesday requesting that the United States Space Command (USSPACECOM) be headquartered in Florida.
Today, I submitted a request to President Trump formally asking him to headquarter United States Space Command in Florida, said Governor DeSantis.
As the worlds premier gateway to space, Florida has been the departure point for more cargo and humans to space than any other place in the world, so I believe our state is the logical choice to base this new command. In addition to my request to the President, I have also directed Space Florida to make it a top priority to pursue and secure this new headquarters here in Florida.
On December 18, 2018, President Donald Trump issued a memorandum to the Secretary of Defense establishing the United States Space Command (USSPACECOM) as a Unified Combatant Command.
On Tuesday, President Trump signed Space Policy Directive 4, establishing a new space-focused extension of the U.S. Air Force to be housed at USSPACECOM.

Vandenberg is a better pick.
Nice move, Governor Ron!
Gotta give credit.
Florida is getting greedy, they have:
U.S. Southern Command- Miami
U.S. Central Command- Tampa
U.S. Special Operations Command- Tampa
No need to cluster more senior HQs there.
Or Schriever Air Force Base. Since this is going to grow out of the current Air Force Space Command, and the 50th Space Wing has long been headquartered at Schriever, and there is plenty of room to grow out there, no other missions to impede or interfere with (ie the Air Force could eventually give SAFB over to a separate Space Force without losing anything else)... I’ll bet you it goes to Colorado.
When California declare nationhood or does something else really crazy, we lose Vandenberg
Cruz is the chair of the space committee so Texas is in the race
Best. Governor. Ever.
“Vandenberg is a better pick.”
Naw. Not CA, nope.
I was stationed there long ago, btw. Many stories to tell...
If it does go to Florida and the cost of housing Brazier substantially, I’m sunk cuz I just sold a place there. Dangit!
U.S. Space Command was at Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs, Colorado from 1985-2002 when it was deactivated. If they want to move it somewhere else, there are plenty of locations outside of Florida:
Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama
Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado
Vandenberg AFB, Lompoc, California
Buckley AFB, Denver, Colorado
“Vandenberg is a better pick.”
Surely (I know; “don’t call me Shirley”) you jest!
California? Absolutely, positively, no WAY! They despise us and we need to take sh!t FROM them; not give them stuff.
You don’t know what you are talking about. The Air Force ALREADY does space launches from there and because of its geography its the one launch location in the US that allows shots to polar orbit, which is a national security thing (polar orbiting satellites cover the whole earth). Please do get off the political rewards and punishments thing and get on to making this work.
I agree, No way California.
My suggestion is Cheyenne Mountain where NORAD is located. Seems that's the safest most logical place.
If California rebels, conquer it back and hang the leaders of the revolt.
You know nothing of the actual business of space launches. I do (spent 5 years in the biz and 10 more in payloads).
I did an extended engagement at Peterson back in the day.
Explain to me please what your experience in space launches has to do with locating Space Command HQ? Seems like you’re comparing apples to 2x4s.
Not really, he is doing his job. If there are better locations than those governors should too. They should fight for their state.
The Space Coast is more than government launches, it has the amazing Space-X launch and landings, Blue Origin Rocket building facility, Virgin Galactic, Orbital ATK, and United Launch Alliance all using the facilities.
You live in CA. I can understand with your diminishing tax base and exodus of non-Hispanic whites that you want a further infusion of US taxpayer money. With the socialists running CA, it is not a good investment in the long term.
