To be clear, we have seen shutdowns start from a technical standpoint after the deadline if there is no agreement. In April, 2011, Hse did not vote on an interim spending bill to fund the government until after the midnight deadline. Obama didn't sign the bill until the next day

A shutdown is assured because there is no bill to fund parts of the government beyond 11:59:59 pm et tonight & the Hse is out. Negotiations continue behind the scenes. But nothing can move through the House.

Wow, I don’t know how I’m going to function without all those nonessential workers not working.

If they are nonessential, why do we need them in the first place?
