Counting unlawful votes. Destroying ballots. Sunshine Law violations. Busted deadlines.
So many controversies have bedeviled Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes culminating in her offices troubles in the aftermath of Floridas chaotic 2018 elections that her days in office are now numbered, insiders and lawmakers say. Shes losing support from fellow Democrats and faces the increasing likelihood of an embarrassing suspension from office at the hands of either Gov. Rick Scott or his likely successor, Ron DeSantis.
Suspending Snipes from office would put a final exclamation point on one of the most contested midterms in recent Florida history, which has resulted in three statewide recounts for U.S. Senate, governor and agriculture commissioner as well as recounts in three local legislative races. Removal proceedings in the GOP-led FL Senate could also cause a possible rift among Florida state Senate Democrats if the black caucus rallies around Snipes in the same way it did around her predecessor, who was also African-American, more than a decade ago.
This is not just the most troubled elections office in the state, its the most troubled elections office in the nation, said Sen. Marco Rubio, who contends that Snipes needs to be removed from office once the recounts that began Sunday ... are over.
She has shown shes incapable of conducting a large and important election in a way that inspires public confidence and trust, Rubio said. Shes been found to have destroyed ballots, in violation of the law. Opened absentee ballots early, in violation of the law. Misprinted ballots that have gone out.[snip]
If Snipes is suspended by the governor, incoming Florida state Senate President Bill Galvano said its time to have his chamber investigate and prepare to strike the final blow by removing her from office just as the chamber did to her predecessor, Miriam Oliphant, for mismanaging the 2002 Democratic gubernatorial primary.
What shes demonstrated over the years is a series of mistakes that rise above the level of negligence and into incompetence, Galvano said. We cant continue to keep ignoring this and every option should be on the table.
Under Florida's constitution, "incompetence" is a specific cause that a governor can invoke in suspending a constitutional officer such as Snipes.
Democrats say Snipes has privately confided that she plans to quit, but its unclear when. I hope its soon, said one state Senate Democrat... Otherwise, shes a goner. ...
Neither Scott's nor DeSantis teams will comment on the record about their plans for what many see as Snipes looming suspension, because both men are involved in races that are the subject of recounts and lawsuits. They dont want their comments used against them in court, according to those close to both Republicans. [snip]
... [Scott's]The lawsuit against Snipes reads like an indictment, detailing numerous instances of Snipes ignoring the law and busting statutory deadlines....
In 2016, the SOE office: (i) mailed an unknown number of absentee ballots that omitted a proposed state constitutional amendment; (ii) posted early voting numbers online before the polls closed in primary elections; and (iii) opened ballots in private which prevented citizens and other groups of ensuring ballots were properly cast and counted, .... in 2017, the Supervisor of Elections: (i) admitted that her office has allowed ineligible voters including felons and non-citizens to cast votes; and (ii) wrongfully authorized the destruction of ballots cast in the 2016 Democratic primary election for the 23rd Congressional District of Florida. [snip]
However, the parade of horribles leads to one question that Scotts spokesmen wont or cant answer: Why didnt he suspend Snipes before if, as his suit says, she has a long and troubling history of violating Florida election law, especially in close elections?"....
Scotts lawsuit [last week] Snipes failed to provide public information concerning the votes she had left to tally after Election Day information that should readily be at her fingertips and that, under Floridas Sunshine Laws, she should have disclosed. Snipes was unwilling or unable to provide the data, and her office didnt follow state law requiring regular vote tally updates every 45 minutes... Then, in the dead of night, the office suddenly uploaded tens of thousands of new ballots in the Democratic-heavy county, causing Scotts margins statewide to fall so far that it triggered a recount...[snip]
To cap it all off, the recount was supposed to start at 7 a.m. Sunday. But ....delayed... until just before noon. At the last minute, Snipes also admitted to mistakenly including 22 [illegal] absentee ballots...Broward County also failed to finish tallying its available votes by noon Saturday, the deadline... It also failed to upload all the in-person early votes and available absentee ballot votes by 7 p.m. on the day before the election. [snip]
Scott shouldnt kick her out of office. He should send her flowers, an insider connected to DeSantis said sarcastically. this is a problem for everyone and Scott should have removed her before this happened. This is his problem. He should have fixed it. Ron will if he has to.
Many Democrats refrained from speaking critically of Snipes. But some clearly have had enough....
Unless it's stopped, here and now, another 80 IQ Democrat lackey will be in Snipes seat doing the exact same thing. And there is no shortage of them in Florida.
The optics are better now if she removed TODAY rather than after she claims Nelson won.
In answer to her question...pretty much nothing except protect its own privileges.
She is just the middle man in a highly coordinated, well funded political coup.

If you can’t get to the top of the pyramid, prosecute the highest you can get. They will either sing, or be martyred for their cause and be a deterrent to others.
You can’t have this level of and this amount of frequency of incompetence without it rising to the level of lawful negligence at the very least, even if you can’t prove and prosecute intent.
Man thst stern look doesnt suit her
Take s cue from Kamala
Exploit your looks girl
Its politics ...optics baby
Notice the absence of all the rat -politicians circling the wagons in her defense. ......... silence..........No DWS mouthpiece!
Wow...this gal sure has a flame retardant wardrobe. What she is and HAS been doing is straight up willful and wanton criminality executed with great skill. But nooooo...most all these write-ups about this snake describe these actions as “incompetent”...”inept”...”troubled”...”negligent”...making it sound as if she didn’t receive enough training or there’s not enough intellect going on.
Yeah, right. Incompetent my Irish hiney.
Where they go from here on is another story....looks like since years of this 'Incompetence' the county has proven, even with a change of election chiefs, they pass the 'incompetence' on to the next.
The voting rights act allows for Federal Observers and Election Monitoring which likely should be called for Broward County in the future.
If what is being reported is true, the Senate is going to have to take some drastic action, said state Sen. Kevin Rader, a Democrat whose district includes part of Broward County. Rader acknowledged that Snipes is a problem for Democrats statewide because Broward is the second-largest county and is a liberal bastion.
Were talking about Democratic votes here; this is a huge Democratic count, he said. So from a partisan standpoint, its like, Are you kidding me?
Another Broward Democrat, state Rep. Jared Moskowitz, said he doesnt expect Snipes to last.
I suspect she wont be here for long, said Moskowitz, whether she is suspended from office, she leaves office early or shes voted out.
Snipes is not just incompetent, she is corrupt.
She shouldn’t be forced from office - she should be jailed.
She holds a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership. She likely has a triple digit IQ.
Too little to late!
Lemme see, who was Governor of FL then?
UniParty forever!!!!!
Well, hopefully this will get her out of there... Also, hopefully, a more honest (yeah, right) person will replace her.
She needs, at least, life behind bars (as an example to what happens to fraudulent people like her).
Snipes shouldn’t be involved with anything election related other than her own ballot.
Personally, I have felt, for a long time, that the Texas Rangers should be given the ability for temporary ability to work for.with U.S. Marshals..
I think they would do an exceptional job of draining the swamp...
(I haven’t been back to the states for over 20 years, but they were the most dedicated and honest LE, when I was a deputy.)
While he’s at it Gov-elect DeSantis should remove Sheriff Israel as well. And I thought the corruption in Rockland county where I grew up was bad. Those crooks were saints compared to these scumbags.
Agree. Well said.
Not only removed from office but a serious effort ought to be towards criminal prosecution.
But that is just what it seems like from way up here in the bleacher seats.
“Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory” has long be a strong suit for the GOP.
