Same here; I think Im going to remove the clock in the bedroom and try waking naturally, regardless of clock time.
DST is taking Ben Franlin’s “Early to bed and early to rise...” maxim and adding “by order of the federal government” to it.
It is on the ballot here in California. If yes wins it will give the Legislature permission to deal with the mess. Like they need permission to do anything here...
Say what? What time change?
Florida voted to ban Daylight Savings Time...but the state needs Washington to okay it...
Standardard isnt god decreed or natural either. Otherwise how could Benton harbor Michigan and New York City be in the sam e time zone. New York had sun rise 50 minutes earlier today.
I don’t like the extra hour of sunlight. Burns my grass.
“Not everything is political. Daylight savings tike stems from Benjamin Franklin, an economical man in every sense, who observed those who worked by candlelight and slept by sunshine and at the same time complained about the cost of candle wax and tallow.”
It’s a foolish twice-a-year waste of time. It does not save any daylight. Next year in the Spring, go to DST and stay there.
Why don't we advance the calendar by one month? It's the same thing.
Try to explain Daylight Savings Time to a cat. The cat will look at you like you are stupid to believe what you are saying.
And the cat will be right.
I'm gwan out in the daylight and fight with the leaves falling from the maple and oak trees into my yard.
Most of the leaves are from my neighbor's maple trees, but my oak trees will get even later in the month.
I was just being pedantic.
Except your free time in the daylight. I wasnt born to work my life away.
It works fine for people who live in southern states. For us in the north we never get to see the sun on a weekday. By the way, who works by natural light anymore (or tallow candlelight).
We only win when they finally put it to rest for good.
I agree.
Yes it would be simpler to keep one time year round, but we do things that need light at different times at different times of the year.
Last week I was driving my Son to school in darkness. The driving is somewhat stressful on rural roads with the out of control deer population and the rut on and bow season right now. This week the Sun will be up and it should be nicer.
While pretty early in the spring after DST he plays baseball in the evenings on weekdays. It would be logistically hard to play these games without DST.
We SHOULD have an extra hour of daylight in the summer. It used to be for agriculture but now it's for the working man. Nothing better than coming home from work on a summer day and tossing a steak on the grill outside and popping a beer while it's still sunny and warm.
Won't be as easy to do that if we have an hour less daylight.
So I fully appreciate getting that extra hour of daylight during the summer months and I'm more than happy to give it back in the fall and winter.
Well he wrote those very words in his autobiography. So it’s not a myth.
“For in walking thro’ the Strand and Fleet Street one morning at seven o clock, I observed there was not one shop open tho it had been daylight and the sun up above three hours — the inhabitants of London choosing voluntarily to live much by candlelight and sleep by sunshine, and yet often complaining a little absurdly of the duty on candles and the high price of tallow.”
California voters are gong to get rid of DST on Tuesday. Something all can agree on.
