“Not everything is political. Daylight savings tike stems from Benjamin Franklin, an economical man in every sense, who observed those who worked by candlelight and slept by sunshine and at the same time complained about the cost of candle wax and tallow.”

Except the “Benjamin Franklin” thing is just a idiotic myth. That you can believe such nonsense tells more about your gullibility than any purported merit of Daylight Saving Time.
On the other side, there is a serious argument to show that DST is an unmitigated crap of mammoth proportions: the Europeans will stop using it next year (2019) after a massive public consultation revealed that nearly 90% of respondents are against DST. Good riddance.

Well he wrote those very words in his autobiography. So it’s not a myth.

“For in walking thro’ the Strand and Fleet Street one morning at seven o clock, I observed there was not one shop open tho it had been daylight and the sun up above three hours — the inhabitants of London choosing voluntarily to live much by candlelight and sleep by sunshine, and yet often complaining a little absurdly of the duty on candles and the high price of tallow.”
