President Donald Trump said Tuesday he was pleased with ongoing discussions with North Korea, adding he would like a future summit with the country's leader Kim Jong Un at his Mar-a-Lago estate or on North Korean territory.
Trump's comments come after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Kim in Pyongyang to further denuclearization efforts on the Korean Peninsula. Following the meeting, Kim agreed to allow outside nuclear inspectors into the Punggye-ri nuclear testing site to prove that it had been irrevocably dismantled, but the North Korean leader did not make any promises to fully denuclearize the country without significant concessions from the U.S.
Still, Trump said he was happy with the progress being made with North Korea, adding that his administration has made unprecedented progress since his historic summit in Singapore with Kim back in May.
"I think the speed is amazing," Trump told reporters Tuesday at the White House. "You have no nuclear tests, no rockets. And we have a very good relationship with Chairman Kim. I like him, he likes me."
Briefly speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Pompeo said he was happy with his most recent discussions with Kim and was grateful for Kim's cooperation toward denuclearization.
"There is still a long way to go, and much work to do," Pompeo said. "We can now see a path to where we'll achieve the ultimate goal, which is the verified denuclearization of North Korea."
Trump added that discussions are underway for a second summit and that both he and Kim would enjoy having one on his Mar-a-Lago property in Florida, where he has previously hosted Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Trump answered questions on the U.S.' ongoing discussions with the reclusive communist country during a briefing to announce the resignation of Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley.
Trump should not go to North Korea. They are nuts. He can meet Kim somewhere else.
A state fair? Atlantic City? An Iowa farm? Onboard an Aircraft Carrier being built?
Sounds a bit like Green Eggs and Ham.
He’d be safer in Pyongyang than Portland.
“Rarely plays golf but EVERY time he does he get a hole-in-one.”
Perhaps, but I bet Trump’s club has filled more holes around the world than little Un’s.
That’ll be a long train trip for him.
I just knew I’d wind up seeing Kim at Mar-A-Lago!
Mar-a-Lago...
I can’t imagine how many boxes of Post Toasties it took to pay for that!
The man’s been a dictator, the son of a dictator, opulence is not going to impress him, he’s known it from birth. Just because he’s kept his people poor and his country is poor doesn’t mean he is, and he’s not. But, being hosted at the private estate of the President of The United States, just as Xi of China and Abe of Japan were hosted, will make an impression. Big difference there.
The surf would be tsunami level if Kim decided to take a dip in the ocean.

All he hits are holes-in-one. subsequently he can’t putt worth a darn. ;-)
I hereby officially apply for a job in security at the first TRUMP resort NoKo.
Some un-special small town in the boonies.
Rural folk are the same in many ways the world over.
One can only imagine the huge “Impeach Trump” hissy fit the communist loving democrats would fly into if he used “his” property to house this event.
Jealous?
President Trump is EXACTLY what I wanted for President after decades of commie liberal democrats and RINOs have been running the USA into the ground.
Not at all. I meant that as a compliment comparing him to Kim Jong Un.
“Does the little potato actually play golf? Or is it just the DPRK media that claims he does?”
He’ll show up with a cast on his arm. Whether he plays golf or not, there is no way he will join Trump on the golf course.
Perfect!
