There is something going on in America on a profound social-political-philosophical-legal level. And it’s very wrong. If we don’t address this issue, which in my opinion poses the greatest threat to this country, we don’t have a future. What I am talking about is the lack of accountability of people in power, people who do wrong, people who flagrantly break the law. Why is this happening? Because of political correctness, aka our pathological need for “diversity”, because of someone’s politics or political designation, the law is not being fairly and equally applied.
What has made America the greatest country in the history of the world (NYC Governor Chris Cuomo does not approve of this message), and what has made her very unique, is that we have the rule of law, which means the law of the land is applied equally. Everybody has equal justice and equal rights/protection under the law.

And I’ve read your, “I’m a conservative!” defense, so don’t bother. A TRUE conservative is tired of the scales of justice ALWAYS being tilted in the liberal’s favor. You’re a Rino -— willing to lose the election, rather than give Trump credit. Eager to bash him, even if it helps liberals. Sure, these people are flawed, but all Trump’s flaws, put together with the flaws of people like Manafort, don’t BEGIN to compare with the corruption that is liberals and Rinos. I voted for a so-called “Godly” man, once, and that’s how Jimmy Carter got elected. If we conservatives can hold our noses and vote for a creep like Romney, maybe, just once in a while, Rinos like YOU, could support our President.

You forget this is a tax trial. Manafort is only one of hundreds of Americans that are hired worldwide for political campaigns and causes, and most countries’ political candidates are a whole lot more evil that what we see in America. I imagine every country has the same type of consultants who work worldwide. Sometimes we call them lobbyists. And their influence is just as visible at the UN. As for not paying taxes, besides the prosecution trying to inflate the income, CPAs admitting to fraud, and a dispute in the first place over what is income versus allowable expenses, that’s usually a year or two or maybe 5 in jail or a bigly fine - not like he robbed any pension funds or crashed the real estate market, or like Gates, admitted to extorting and theft of six figure sums from some four previous employers (who, including Manfort, cannot now go back and sue because the slimeball has immunity). Some, I’m sure, would prefer Manafort have donated more underwear to GoodWill to fudge his taxes but since he didn’t he should be lynched. But those are the ones with low iq - very noisy on the fringe, but largely impotent.

Good point. He, unlike any other modern politician running for or elected to the presidency, refused to provide his taxes. Granted, he said he would, but keeping his word has never been something that Trump does.
I am an now an independent conservative committed to conservative principles. I’m not a Trump apologist, a Trump sophist, or a man who turn a blind eye to an obvious fraud. You comment, though, reminds me of those who think that if you advocate decency or Christian charity, then, you must be a Leftist or a communist. Real conservatives still know that our character matters, and Trump’s biography is a history of a man without good character.

Well, I simply cannot agree. I saw the Clinton Foundation as a major crime. Why? Because, unlike you, I think that the Clintons, and Manafort as well, did rob a pension fund or the equivalent. They took money from un-elected autocrats who took the wealth of their people, the wealth of their nation, through political conniving. They gave that money to the Clintons and to Manafort, in short. These donors stole from their people. The source of the money they gave is basically like money gained as gangsters do. That money is the fruit of crimes against innocent people. Now, if Manafort had no connection to Trump, it would be irrelevant. However, and this is undeniable, it is Trump, who claimed he hires only the best, hired Manafort (and Omarosa to make the point with sledgehammer). Manafort was his Campaign Manager for over four months. And, and you’ll not like this or believe it, Trump funded nearly all of his private sector ventures with money that had similar origins. When nobody would loan Trump money, he found a source. That source was money like the money the Clintons got. It was money stolen by corrupt people in Russia (by Putin), the Russian people funneled (that is laundered) through the Deutsche Bank. None of this is classified. It’s fully available to people who put truth ahead of the Trump cult.

The question is: Did the company repatriate the money. It didn’t sound like it to me. Thus no taxes owed. I think that is why he was after a loan. Because the money wasn’t repatriated, but it could be used for a loan. I am sure he didn’t know about the partner embezzling from him or he would have done something about it. The accountant was cooking the books to hide the embezzling. So Manafort sought the loan with cooked books. He didn’t get the loan based on those books though. The bank was trying to ingratiate itself and the manager himself to Manafort for future possibilities.
I’ll give you a longer reply in a moment, but to separate one factoid out, “Manafort was his Campaign Manager for over four months. “ is incorrect. Manafort was hired specifically for and spent 2 months as Convention Whip since the campaign needed someone who’d actually coordinated a convention and knew the rules. Since he had worked for previous national campaigns and named politicians, his hire didn’t require a whole lot of vetting for that narrow scope. Once the convention was over, he failed vetting and let go in a matter of 7 weeks, the last week of which was an internal scramble to name a replacement to maintain continuity.
Yes, he did - an American source. He called the Bankers, Americans, btw, and said if I go down, all of you go down, so you might want to gamble on me one last time. Here's my plan. It was a plan that could be gambled on and we know the rest of the story - he pulled it off.

So I guess China and Dubai and the EU, every casino, every luxury goods seller, every $6000 a night resort and all the rest should hang their heads in shame that those nasty Russians bought condos and expensive cars and yachts in their countries? You do realize that there are wealthy people in Russia who are not autocrats? And that there are over a million Russian immigrants in America who are very happy to be here and not there?
And did you forget the Russian Reset? Americans were encouraged to do business with Russia. Hillary was pushing a Russian silicon valley. Numerous companies courted Russian business, including more than a few realtors. (The EU, btw, has never stopped doing business with Russia - just ask Merkel). A year or so ago there was a big deal made of Trump sending a business delegation down to Cuba years ago - while ignoring that Zero himself and the Chamber of Commerce promoted such business junkets as part of a 'Cuban reset'. So you can't call 'reset' and then lambast people for participating in the 'reset'. And what does 'elected' versus 'un-elected' have to do with the price of eggs?
Half the countries represented at the UN, more than half, 'steal from their people'. Why do you think Central America is a cesspool? Or the Middle-East? Or Africa? or Eastern Asia? It even happens here in the states. So now we punish the people who unwittingly sell to those who steal? Last I heard, Macy's wasn't required to vet buyers thru the CIA before they sell them diamonds.
What the Clinton Cartel did visavis the Foundation accepting donations from just about every despot on the planet ---to compromise American foreign policy and national security---- in order to enrich herself and her cronies and keep the coal burning in her political hate machine - is hardly comparable to Trump selling a golf membership. And anyone making such a comparison needs new glasses.
