The US Navy is reportedly planning to build sprawling immigrant detention centres on military bases, amid a Trump crackdown at the US-Mexico border.
A draft memo obtained by Time magazine outlines plans to build "austere" tent camps to house 25,000 migrants.
The memo says the camps would be built on abandoned airfields in California, Alabama, and Arizona.
Another camp near San Francisco is being designed for as many as 47,000 people, the memo says.
A Pentagon spokesman said the military had not been asked by the Department for Homeland Security (DHS) to draw up the specific plans, but was engaging in "prudent planning... should the DHS ask for assistance in housing adult illegal immigrants".
The US military said on Thursday it had been asked by the government to get ready to house up to 20,000 immigrant children.
The Navy memo estimates the force would spend $233 million (£175m) to run a facility for 25,000 people for six-months....

Rather than spend this money we don’t have and increase the federal budget deficit... how about repatriate our troops from ungrateful places like Europe.. and use that money and troops to defend our borders to prevent this illegal human trafficking in the first place? Isn’t it the federal government’s job to defend our borders and not those of say Germany, Afghanistan, Syria, etc?
I doubt it will cost that much.
Ideally we would not be warehousing them but sending them home as quickly as possible.
However, it appears our laws require a hearing and I would rather pay to detain them than set them free inside the US.
Once we get the wall built the problem will diminish.
It may diminish on its own once word spreads that there are no more free passes.
That’s just the cost of one facility for half a year. They’re going to be building quite a few. Just the food, payroll and utilities (air-conditioning/electric/water/sewerage/Internet) are going to be very costly.

Get Joe Arpaio to run it for them and it will be done for 10% of that.
Payroll for X numbers of federal employees and servicemembers, utilities, rental, buying fixtures, teachers, food, fuel, medical contracting, medical supplies, vehicles, recordkeeping, oversight, lawyers, social workers, judges and staff, air-conditioning, dental and eyeglasses, entertainment, clothing, vendors, etc.
Where do they hold that annual Burning Man festival?
If it saves just one U.S. citizen’s life. It’s worth it.

Boot them all surreptitiously. When sued by the commie left, tell the court “Sorry, there was a paperwork glitch, aggravated by inadequate computer systems. We’re trying to correct this but can’t say that it won’t happen again.”

Maybe it would be cheaper to put them on cruise ships headed south. The longer it takes for their hearing the futher south they get. Or head them for them for the EU.
We have considerable real estate that sit inside restricted air space that only allows military aircraft overflights. A few unpaved tracks through the desert are the only way in and out. We can take this propaganda weapon out of the loonie Democrats and keep the pressure on them. Public opinion is on our side long term.
