Beyond the moral and human rights calamity that is President Trump's de facto family separation policy, it is also a logistical disaster that is placing back-breaking strain on a system near the breaking point. One consequence of this is that the facilities for unaccompanied minors - like the one in Brownsville, Texas, that sparked a national furor - are overloaded because they're now being sent additional children who are "unaccompanied" because they were torn away from their parents. The Trump administration's response to this was to construct so-called "tent cities" in Tornillo, Texas, outside El Paso. Children will be kept in extreme south Texas conditions - though the tents reportedly have air conditioning - in a setup that is reportedly three times as expensive as keeping them with their parents would have been....

Better conditions that 3d Armored Division troops were housed in in 1990-91 in Saudi Arabia & Kuwait; than initially in Iraq in 2003 and in all of the Combat Out Posts in Iraq and Afghanistan, 2001 to now.
This gravest concern is that children too young to remember their personal information are being sent far from their parent(s) apparently with no information available to reunite with family. An infant might be able to make a good adjustment with satisfactory new family, a young child may always remember. I was sent away for 6 months to a good boarding school while my parents fixed an abandoned house where we lived rent free for the next 12 years. Only after considerable therapy have I reconciled the damage this did to my psyche. And my parents were TRYING to do the right thing.
These actions by our government make me think of what was done in Argentina. Under a fascist government, children were taken away from political prisoners and given to politically favored families. The prisoners were sometimes killed or tortured by seeing their children be made to suffer.
I forgot to include that my age for this separation was four to four and one half, and they visited me every few weekends.
