Beyond the moral and human rights calamity that is President Trump's de facto family separation policy, it is also a logistical disaster that is placing back-breaking strain on a system near the breaking point. One consequence of this is that the facilities for unaccompanied minors - like the one in Brownsville, Texas, that sparked a national furor - are overloaded because they're now being sent additional children who are "unaccompanied" because they were torn away from their parents. The Trump administration's response to this was to construct so-called "tent cities" in Tornillo, Texas, outside El Paso. Children will be kept in extreme south Texas conditions - though the tents reportedly have air conditioning - in a setup that is reportedly three times as expensive as keeping them with their parents would have been....

Air conditioning is for the Mexicans/Central Americans who look like they belong in Barcelona or Paris.
From my memory of four months in Turkey and tent city life, the AC could keep the tent at a brisk 60 degrees on the hottest days. We had our tent carpetted. For me, that was five star accommodations.

I slept in a pup tent while on exercises in Korea, but my “office” (a 5 ton expando-van) was air-conditioned and attached to a dozen similar trucks with a flat bed acting as a boardwalk between them. The general officer’s van always had coffee, lemonade and cookies.
There is criticism that these livable units could house almost all of the 4 million Syrian refugees that have been displaced by the countrys civil war.
Those are nice looking tents. On the other hand this evening I heard one example of an 18 month old child who was separated from the parents on the Tex/Mex border and is now in Maryland, and they do not know the child’s name or the name of the parent(s). Very concerned this is one of a number of very young children who might never be reunited with their parents.
"Each one has a 3 ton cooling unit attached"
"Where did they stay during that 2000 mile walk"
"See the green boxes on the side of the tent (picture 10 shows that they all have them)? those are heat/air conditioning units. Service members in Afghanistan and Iraq did not always have the heat/air conditioning units but they survived."
"What is the temperature 1 mile away in Mexico where they came from?"
"96 degrees?? Do they think we can't see the air conditioners??"
"Summer vacation. Then welfare and free medical."
"Looks like summer camp compared to most places in Honduras and Guat."
Youre right. The comments are sublime. Seems yahoo got ahold of yet another exploding cigar. Libs have an endless supply of those.
Or the so-called Palestinians for that matter.
If this is worse, perhaps we should send them home.
I was adopted at three months old. I’m still alive many years later.
Truly LOL - those comments are brutal. I’m guessing this particular “scandal” isn’t long for this world. I was shocked to read it was 96 in Texas in July. Who knew?
That’s what I don’t understand. I get that the children are separated from their parents, but I read about some being sent to New York.
I thought they would be some place near their parents. So if they came in California they’d be staying some place in Southern California.
What do they do with children that don’t come with parents?
What a nightmare!
It isn’t even fake news anymore. It has simply become fake noise.
Im sure these are far better accommodations than they had in whatever shithole country they came from.
That place is in better condition that the Basic Training barracks at Ft. Knox in 1980.
I wish we had it that good!
I remember reading, here on FR, nobama sending unaccompanied “children” to southern states, 200/300 at a time for “schooling”. So what’s the hullaboo now about separating “families”? So much BS from the democrats and so called American media just before election time.
talking about schooling i went to grade school in a ww2 quonset hut no air conditioning...oh the humanity...
