GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) The De Beers Group has announced plans to manufacture synthetic diamonds at a factory in Gresham, Oregon.
The British diamond giant said in a news release Tuesday it will spend $94 million on the production facility over the next four years. Once fully operational, the plant will be able to annually produce 500,000 rough carats of lab-grown diamonds.
The diamonds will be marketed under the name Lightbox. They will retail from $200 for a quarter-carat stone to $800 for a one-carat stone much less than traditional diamonds....

Fake news!
Women will want the real ones because they cost a man more.
No matter if they can’t tell the difference.
Bingo!!!!
A smart jeweler just might provide a recipt showing a much higher price, for a price, of course.
Don’t show it to her, let her find it snooping...
They’re usually a lot better quality. Most are flawless. That’s one way they can tell they are man-made. It looks to me like they are going by the “if you can’t beat them, join them” policy.
It’s a warning to South Africa. Seize our mines there, and we will make them worthless to you.
I guess that I’ll have to walk down the street to their plant and buy some of their cheap diamonds. Who wants some? U buy, I’ll fly.
I wonder if diamonds are still used in industry.
Politically correct Oregon is the right place to manufacture phony diamonds. The people are already delusional.
Yes, big time! Not just in abrasives and bits, but as an outstanding heat sink material.
The semiconductor industry salivates at the thought of diamonds flawless enough to used as a silicon, silicon carbide, and III-IV material replacement for high voltage, high frequency high power applications.
Good plan fellas. Give them more of what they want. Let their demands drive them to 3rd century methods of production in all ventures.
“Its a warning to South Africa. Seize our mines there, and we will make them worthless to you.”
Sounds credible.
Shady Tree [to James Bond]: You dirty double-crossing limey fink! Those g**d*** diamonds are phonies!
They aren’t phony it seems and are basically indistinguishable from the mined ones. . . The markets for diamonds and “fine” wine are the two phoniest markets known to man and both deserve to be demolished by technology.
Shady Tree, We just love your act.
I am hoping that this will drive down the cost of diamonds enough to be able to use them in more applications than just trinkets.
I would add “art” to that phony list.
ORegon PING!
